Aside from the Educational side of SJA, they re extra circular activities are incredible. First of the extra circular activities is their athletic program. Each and every team at SJA is nothing short of excellent. SJA has won many state championship titles and there will be many more to come. As an SJA athlete, I can say that the coaches are great and they work with each girl to help her succeed and shine. Also another important group of extra circular activities include the numerous clubs. Clubs are a fun way to be active in the SJA community. They bring the girls together through a common interest with fun activities. So pretty much SJA is an fantastic school, but I agree that this school isn t for everyone. SORRY, MY MESSAGE WOULD ONLY SUBMIT IF I DID 3 SEPERATELY!
Being a semi-recent graduate (2008) I thought I might comment on some of the issues presented in the previous reviews: 1. Stress Yes, St. Josephs is somewhat stressful, but honestly, if your high school is not, you are not being pushed hard enough. SJA is a COLLEGE PREPRATORY HIGH SCHOOL. If you do not want to be well prepared for college, do not attend SJA. If you dont do well with stress, see a councelor and dont take honors classes. 2. Computers Yes, as a freshman they are extremely distracting, but by sophmore year (even 2nd semester freshman), youre over the new computer excitement. The technology access at SJA has made me SO much more prepared for college. I laugh when I see students in class shopping or on Facebook, because those are the ones offering to pay for my notes. So all in all, the computers are definatly a plus.
I am a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and I absolutely loved my experiences there. I was involved in many activities on campus and played sports as well. The computer aspect of the school has positives and negatives. They can be distracting in the classroom, but it also teaches students that if they don't have self control and get their work done they will quickly fall behind. As a student at LSU now, I am much more computer savy and experienced than many of the people in my classes. Higher education incorporates the computer in pretty much everything from communicating with teachers, projects, homework, or even test taking. Becoming familiar with the computer at a young age and during a time of such techological development can only give the girls a big step a head of other students and into their careers.
I attended this school along with all of my other sisters and it prepared me well for college. It is an amazing school and all of my fellow classmates were so close. I considered the school a second home! Also, SJA offers many clubs and organizations to join. They also have amazing teachers and it is just an amazing school! I have so many great memories from this place and I will remember the great lessons I learned always!
One word awesome! I love this school the teachers are amazing and the students feel like sisters. When applying understand they want people who will excell. 'people' complain 'it's to much work' understand it is a college prep. school. I recommend it to everyone who wants to suceed in life.
I am currently a student at St. Joseph's Academy and love it. Even though it does get difficult at times, it is expected of a school like this. When applying for SJA, one needs to take into consideration that this is a school that prepares you for college. The teachers expect the students to put forth their best effort in everything they do. This is only because they want the girls to become more responsible individuals, while preparing them for the real world. The teachers and administration are very helpful and give devoted one on one attention to someone who is struggling. The campus at SJA is beautiful and to learn in a Catholic environment that has been around for quite some time is truly unique.
St.Joseph's Academy was a dissappointment for my family. When we decided to send my oldest daughter, we had heard nothing but great comments about the school. Unfortunately, during the time my older daughter was finishing up high school and my younger daughter was entering high school, there was a change in the administration. Since that time, community approval of the school has declined and I could definately see a difference in the education that my 2 daughters received. this is unfortunate for a school to suddenly decline that has such a long and prestigious history.
My daughter attended St. Joseph's, and absolutely loved it. She transferred from Episcopal after her freshman year, and said it was the best thing she has ever done. She is now a sophmore at Boston College and says it's a breeze. I highly reccomend this to any parent or student.
I am a student at SJA and I was reading these reviews and could not help but notice that everyone keeps saying SJA puts a lot of stress on the student. This school is a college prep that is supposed to get you ready for college and your adult life. Yes the computers pose as a great distraction but you learn self discipline. People do complain about the stress but they also come back and thank the teachers because college is a breeze for them. I also play volleyball there and I must say our athletic programs are outstanding. This is a great school and I wish that all girls had a chance to go here.
Im not a parent however, I am currently attending St.Joseph's Academy as an eleventh grader. I have attended SJA since freshman year. My experience has been tough. Like many said, this school is not for everyone. There are many things it lacks. The school seems to be worried more about their 'reputation' than whats really important, their students. There is an unbelievable amount of stress put on us as students everyday. This has caused many problems for myself. My older sister also attended school but had a total different view of it, she very much enjoyed SJA. The all girls tends to be a problem also. Sure its great we can roll out of bed and go right to school The computers are great, only because we can easily be distracted by emailing, shopping, and chatting. I would take these things into concideration.
