Part 2: Nobody ordered me or any of the teachers to write a positive comment here. I am truly sad for our administrators to read some of these hurtful comments. Haters got to hate! Please use your intelligence and common sense when you look/judge a school. BRIS is an amazing school, but it is hard! Parents have to be involved. Kids have to study, the curriculum is more intense than any other school in BR. But it is worth it. When your child will master the languages and score high on standardized tests, when they'll mature into caring and gifted teenagers, after all this time spent at BRIS, you'll know you made the right decision . I rarely post a review but read the previous posts and had to say something. I am a current parent of two students at BRIS. My oldest child started BRIS at the age of 3, she is now in middle school and we have had very positive experiences with BRIS, the principal, the teachers, other parents, staff. There is teacher and staff turnover and that is somewhat of a concern. I do not know if the turnover is the same at other schools. I feel supported by administration, faculty, staff and have met great parents. My kids like school, are happy,secure and are completely supported by administration, faculty and staff. I am concerned about the high school curriculum/faculty as the high school is still in its formative years but for elementary/middle school -- I would send my kids here again based on my eldest child's IOWA, Duke Tip explore and SAT scores and my relationships I have formed with faculty, staff and other parents.

BRIS is an example of a good idea gone terribly wrong due to the greed of the owners. First of all, they promote themselves as an IB school yet NO student has ever earned it, mostly due to the unusually high teacher turnover. This school charges out of this world tuition and even assessed a $200 technology fee yet if you tour the school you will see only about 4 classrooms with ActivBoards and only 1 computer lab with outdated laptops. The school is owned and run by a married couple with expired teaching credentials and no administrative credentials. The only certified administrator resigned recently due to a myriad of questionnable practices in place and emailed all of the middle and high school parents to alert us of her decision. I will not be sending my children to this school after June (yes, they go until June). The teachers are required to be on campus more than 40 hours a week and most make less than $35k a year. It is time this school was investigated. They received grant money for technology the same year they assessed the fee and there is no adequate documentation of where these funds were spent. If you care about your child's education, choose a better school.

As a teacher, I can not believe what is written on that site. For this so called parent of BRIS who wrote about the administration of the school, the two administrators you are refering to are beyond exceptional. They care about their teachers and about their students. They care about the education they provide. I have yet to see such committed experienced administrators in other schools.Their credentials are international. They are recognized by the International Baccalaureate as great leaders. Greed from the owners? FYI this is a non for profit school and therefore there are no owners. How dare you talk about our situation as teachers at the school. The teachers at the school are part of a big family. We love it here. Our administration is supportive and caring. Our salary is more than competitive compared to other private schools in town. Technology? I hope you are kidding. We, teachers, are more than well equipped. The two labs have brand new computers and the technology grant you are talking about was invested in the music program where students can now use technology for composing music. It is amazing to me how people can talk about things that they do not even know about.

I am a veteran parent at BRIS and I think I know the person who is writing all these negative reviews. She is a former parent who has "personal grudges against the Principal and therefore the school. A while ago, she moved her kids to a local public school and she seems to be very unhappy there. Her frustration comes from the fact that she lost a unique opportunity to challenge her children with the rigorous multilingual academic program offered at BRIS. She can only blame herself. I suggest to this person to end her bitterness and get a life! The principal is a visionary and has local and international credentials and training. BRIS outstanding academic results, growing enrollment and community support speak louder than words!

The principal is literally asking people to write positive reviews due to try and cover the negative ones...My child has been going to BRIS for years and at first I loved it. However, after a while all the glory faded and the truth shone through. The principal is not even a certified administrator, she makes poor choice regarding everything, from allocating money to scheduling. My child loves her friends and teachers, but this is our last year. Ready to move to an established school with structure and adequate technology.

This school is clearly not right for everyone as you can see from the HIGHLY negative reviews? Every school has it's strengths & weaknesses. Parents have to choose what is the most important thing they want to instill in their child. For some, it is sports. For others, it is religion. For me, it was giving him the gift of being trilingual (We opted out of Chinese). He is 10 yrs. old now, & it is absolutely the MOST incredible feeling, to travel the world with him, & watch how comfortable he is jumping into other cultures & striking up fluent conversations (in French & Spanish) with the locals. It's amazing. BRIS is not easy. My son struggles, & is aware that his homework is way different than his friends, with most books in another language. His ENGLISH is fine. He is independent, confident, & organized. The teachers have been great, though turn over is high. (We lost our Spanish teacher this year when her visa wasn't renewed.) The principal is a visionary. The tuition is steep, but worth it, & the fundraising/volunteering is just a part of it. It's a growing school. BRIS prepares these kids to go out into the world & lead with confidence & compassion. My son is thriving here.

We bought a house in Baton Rouge so our child could attend BRIS! We are from North Louisiana and there is no other comparable educational option in the state. Our daughter is currently in the Upper School and we can t wait for her to graduate from BRIS with the Louisiana High School Diploma and the International Baccalaureate. The offer of both AP and IB courses is simply fantastic! Please ignore the naysayers and keep innovating!

BRIS is highly respected by its teachers, parents and community leaders for providing a distinctive high quality international education to all children. I am a teacher at BRIS and feel supported, respected, professionally fulfilled and challenged. The most important legacy I can leave my children and improve life in this world is to give them a world class education. I am a corporate lawyer and have worked for several multinational companies. Baton Rouge International School is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization. IB does not hand this designation to anyone. Educated people will perform their own research and I promise you will find different than those complaining and comparing BRIS to a traditional school. If you want more for your children outside of the politics of the Common Core, etc., please contact some of the parents via the BRIS Foundation Facebook page. And yes, the children do learn English, the Pledge of Allegiance, and all of the US Presidents, etc. They employ this knowledge and their higher order thinking gained by learning 4 languages to score in the 99th percentile on standardized tests. Please think for yourselves! Parent of 5th and 2nd grade BRIS students.

I have both of my kids in BRIS and my kids Are so lucky to be there , the teachers are amazing Certified , caring plus they teach the kids how to be good part of the community , how to have good manners and how to respect other people from different back grounds, Also they teach our kids to be hard workers they are doing good job in math Science ,S.S plus the languages , they teach music , balet they have yoga team , run for fun team, soccer teams , but if the student is not as smart diffently they can't complete in this school because not any kid has the abilities to do all that , we are happy and blessed here and I recommend it to all my family and friends.

BRIS has done well teaching my children foreign languages. Unfortunately, they have sacrificed the most important subjects to do so. My children are easily a year behind their friends from other private schools in math, science, history, and English. They learn of foreign histories and cultures, but nothing of their own. They do not even teach the Pledge of Allegiance. The school is constantly increasing tuition and adding laughable fees. There is no Homecoming, no football team, no social structure for the kids to look forward to or learn from. The administration is chaotic at best, to busy organizing fundraisers to oversee the students. It had potential, but lacked the leadership.

PART 2---Yes, the school is comprised of t-buildings. BRIS is only about 12 years old and last I checked bricks and mortar do not provide an education. Teachers do. BRIS teachers are some of the most caring and motivating teachers. My children have loved every one of them. If you are more concerned about the buildings and facilities then BRIS is not for you. All schools have pros and cons you need to decide what is important for you and your child. If you are the least bit interested in BRIS I would set up a visit to see and hear it for yourself. Not every school is a good fit for every child and family. BRIS has definitely been a great fit for ours!

Make sure to fully vet this school. Tuition keeps rising and you still have fundraising to do or you have to pay it. No set curriculum from year to year.

I feel very fortunate to have found the Baton Rouge International School. My son has attended for three years now and is picking up a lot of language, as well as math and other skills. My daughter started two years ago and she is thriving as well. This is really a high quality, world-class education. Parents are very diverse and interesting and teachers really care about kids. I would recommend to any of my friends.

Don't walk ,run away Waist of money and time for your kids and yourself. Teachers probably with fonny papers and turnaround quite fast. Nobody wants to be there too long-teachers or parents. Teachers brain wash students to keep them there. Bottom line is: awful school, bad teachers and worse ever principal. Don't waist the time people

As a continuation of my review, to the parents who complain about lack of sports and other activities, is the sports program of a school really what you should base your opionion on your childs education? Did you ever volunteer to be a coach? Who do you expect to coach your child? The nature of private education system in baton rouge means there are a huge number of private sports leagues and there are plenty of opportunities for sports in the area. You don't like the food, then send a lunch with your child. This is not a publc school with a large carfeteria and cafeteria staff to prepare meals on site, meals must be brought in by a liscened caterer, it is your choice to choose hot luch plan or send lunch. I know plenty of people at other schools whose kids bring their lunch too. You complain about the English instruction, but have you ever fully researched fully foreing language immersion education and what that means? All I can say is never choose a school without fully understanding all aspectes of the school and take the time to fully inform yourself on the curriculum and accreditation of the school as well as educational philosophy!

I am a Baton Rouge native with a background in language arts education and write from Japan, where I am a long-term resident. I am returning to the BR in the coming months and am considering employment options, one of them the Baton Rouge International School. I am a bit puzzled by the widely divergent reviews of the school; there are no two or three star ratings. Is the school as outstanding as its most enthusiastic supporters assert? Or, is the school as problem-ridden as its detractors maintain?

Too busy on other languages and not on English. Does not offer sports or other activites for kids like other schools. Kids have to carry heavy books around instead of them building lockers. My child refuses to eat at school because the food brought in is so bad.

This school is a joke. Parents have to do more at this school than teachers and staff. The constant "mandatory" fundraising and volunteering is ridiculous for the amount of money spent here on tuition and if you don't you are charged extra, oh yeah and there is no school lunch you pay dearly for an unhealthy catering service. This school lacks professionalism and organization. They will build anything there but will call every parent to ask for even more money to help pay for it. My child is learning all languages but can't spell the most simple English word. They will always give good grades and say your child is doing well to keep your money coming. So many promises but on your dime. I got where I hated to have to take my child to school. I have talked to so many other parents at field trips that are unenrolling their children. This school lacks in so many ways you are depriving your child. Most of these so called "parent reviews" are from staff and teachers. The e-mails that are sent to parents are so numerous I had to create a separate e-mail address for all of the repetitious "come do this, come help with that" e-mails. Sorry for the truth. 1 good thing=nice principal.
