I have 3 children attending Herndon. I am sad to say that my oldest is moving on to high school next year. I will miss the security I feel at Herndon. The teachers really do care about their students. They give them the opportunity to discover and express their individual talents, which is something that I have found to be lacking from other schools. I love the fact that I receive a call if they are not at school, and they keep constant communication with the parents. Another thing that I really like about the school is the fact that fashion and style doesn't seem to be a priority. With it being so far out, I have noticed that the country setting helps because they don't seem so interested in primping for each other. They seem to focus more on education, which is the way it should be
I think Herndon is great! I have a son who is in 2nd gr. there, and he loves it. I think the school offers a good balance of exceptional academics and extracurricular activities. I feel that my child is safe there and is allowed the opportunity to form friendships with other students that, like him, are motivated to succeed in school.
My children attended Herndon in elementary and it was ok. When they got to middle school, I took them out because it was awful. The teachers did not care about their students at all and the principal would not listen to parent's concerns.
I am the parent of a student at Herndon Magnet School. He has been a student there since Kindergaten and I am absolutely satisfied. He has improved academically and socially every year and I feel it is because of the excellent leadership of the staff as well as their primary focus on academics. My family and I are proud to call Herndon home!
Herndon is awesome, and I have learned so much! This is my last year here at HMS and I will miss it so much! I will take everything I have learned to high school and use it through out my life!GO HAWKS! And I love all my teachers and will cherish all my memories there forever! 8th grade 08!
I think Herndon used to be a great school. It has great test score now, but the unfair discipline policies are out of hand. We have NO consistency with behavior discipline at all. As for as the teachers and staff I think they are great the administration is what needs work.
I think Herndon is a great school, but the location isnt great nor are the teachers. The schools education is great, but I think they could do better hiring teachers becuase some are just way to picky, its like going to military school.
Herndon is by far the best school in north Caddo parish. Teachers and Principal are well above average. Music, art, and Phys.Ed., are very good adjuncts to traditional subjects. The only negatives apparent to me are: they could improve their communications skills(to parents) and fund raising is really over the top. These are minor annoyances when compared to other elementary schools in this parish which generally are 'the pits.'
My oldest son attended Herndon's elementary and middle school program (1992-1998). He is currently attending Millsaps College and doing great which is a tribute the the excellent groundwork done by Herndon teachers. My youngest son started kindergarten at Herndon, and he is beginning his first year of middle school this year. All of the teachers my boys have had have just been excellent and of the highest caliber. Herndon has a community/family like atmosphere with tremedous parental involvement, but the school's greatest achievement is its focus and insistence on academic excellence. I am a strong supporter of public elementary and secondary education. This school is one which serves as an example of just how good public education can be.
We have been pleased with the teachers, students, grades, teachings and care that my son has been given. The staff is always there for the children first and foremost and to me, that is what helps the most in education. Herndon is a great school also because they have the ability to teach in a way where the children can actually take the knowledge given to them and use it. I fully recommend Herndon to anyone that is able to attend. It is well worth it in the end !
