Fantastic school with caring teachers. We have two kids at the lower school and we are very happy. The enrichment curriculum works very well and both my kids (who are quite different from each other) have responded to it very well.
Our children have been at the lower school since it opened in 2004, and we have never had one complaint! Every year we are overwhelmed with the school exceeding our expectations and desires. Our girls get in the car and say how much they love school... especially math and science! We have never been anywhere else, only hear other's stories. It is worth ever penny.
My child entered third grade at the lower school this year, having left a prestigious local private school to attend ESA. I cannot recommend this program highly enough. My child's interest and performance in school dramatically improved when she began school at ESA. She was a very bright child who was bored with the traditional-yet-advanced curriculum she was in before. The ESA Lower School uses the Schoolwide Enrichment Model of curriculum, developed by gifted education professional Joe Renzulli. Renzulli developed the model in the '70s when he realized that gifted students need a curriculum that 'works smarter' rather than 'harder.' Too many schools respond to quick learners by simply giving them 'more of the same.' That doesn't engage the student; it simply keeps him/her busy. ESA's curriculum teaches the kids how to think critically and problem solve, not just to memorize facts, and it's accomplished without sending home hours of homework.
A lot of trust and freedom for the students, I think the teachers have a real connection with their students. I would highly recommend this school!
I am an alumnus of ESA. A graduate in 2004, I was in the last class to graduate before a new Headmaster took over. I went to ESA from sixth to twelth grade. My experiences there have no comparison. It seems like I am consistently yearning to experience the same caring, compasion and challenge that the teachers present to every child, every day. The way that the school is set up, each child learns the importance of personal responsibility, which is way too often overlooked during a child's development. Going to ESA made me the person that I am today. Still to this day, if I came upon an unnattended purse or wallet, the idea of rifling through the contents or stealing the money inside is abhorring. ESA taught me how to take care of myself and to act morally even when noone is watching. It's the best environment for children.
I am an ESA alumnus, and can not even begin to describe how much it means to learn among the trees, grass and sugar cane of ESA. The quality of education was top notch, particularly in the liberal arts. Everyone is encouraged to participate in activities, especially considering the small school population.
I am a twelve year old boy that goes to ESA. i think that ESA is one of the best schools in louisiana in that it chalenges us moraly, phisicaly, and academically. it also has a strong honor system which the school is firmly based on
i think this school is one of the best schools i have ever been to. this school is an awesome enrichment program and the athletics is just outstanding! a student that goes to the best school Roshan P. Jaikishen
I am a ten year old boy who goes to ESA lower school Th school wide enrichment program is very good. It is a very good college prep school. My tenth grade sister hade a college level essay due a week ago. I like it very much, if you live in the Lafayette, New Iberia area you should send your child there. Don't think i rated it this way becuase I am ten. Sincerly, Eli Guillot
