I have two children currently enrolled in this school with this school year (2013-2014) being our third year at CES, and I have to say the experiences I have had with the teachers thus far have been all positive and a great experience for my children. The only complaint that I have is the lack of respect from the principal to the parents and lack of urgency from the office with parents. I have had an "experience" with current principal Mrs. Wolfe, where basically she asked why I, a mom was at the grandparents luncheon bc there would be a mothers luncheon coming soon. I thought that was very inconsiderate because my children's grandparents couldn't make it, but for all she knew my children may not have been as fortunate as to have grandparents. And the office staff is sometimes rude to parents, Mrs. Shane in particular and there has been a few times that I have come into the office and stood at the window waiting for them to finish their conversation before they decided to attend to my needs. But overall the quality of education that my children have received has been GREAT!! The teachers and children really make this school shine.

Over the past seven years, our family has had one or more children enrolled at CES. After moving closer to the school several years ago, we became more involved in PTA, parent support organizations and frequently participate in school activities. Consequently, we came to know the principals, teachers and assistants in a more personal way. In spite of frequent opinions that public schools have less to offer than private schools, I will never again think this way based on my childrens' experiences at CES. CES presents itself as a result of the school's mission to enhance itself as a result of a community effort. Parents wishing to involve themselves in school organizations compliment CES's effort to provide a wholesome and nurturing environment for our children. Please do not let anything deter involvement in these organizations or enjoyment derived from full participation because without parent contributions our experiences would likely be less rewarding.

My son attended this school for 2.25 years and my daughter currently attends K. I will say that all the teachers my kids have had were wonderful, considerate teachers! However, there has been a few encounters were the Principle and Asst. Principle has talked to parents with little to no respect, as if they were a kid! You should always remember you are only as good as your team, not better! I rate this school four stars, thanks to the teachers!

My daughter attends Covington Elementary and has grown so much. I would say that Mrs. Brennecke is doing a great job with her class; five stars should be given easily.

My daughter is Rebecca Fleming and she has gone to Covington Elementary for pre-K,Kindergarden, and T-1. SHe had a hearing problem and fortunately Mrs. Brown helped her work through that by teaches her a different technique for sounding her words out. Now she can read better than the secong graders and she had her ears fixed last week. Unfortunately we have to switch to Lee Road School because of where we live, but not only do I applaude the time and concern that was taken with my child but the Principles there were awesome. I was there for almost every event at school. You have to be involved! I would recommend this school to anyone!! We love you , Kathy and Rebecca Fleming

I am slightly disappointed with 2 of the three teachers my child has had. They were very ill equipped to handle a child with ADHD. In my opinion they did not do enough to ensure that he was taught what he needed to know to proceed to the next grade level. With that, I am very disappointed. The principal is fabulous and the parent involvement is excellent here. As far as sending my child back to this school though, I won't.

The teachers/administrators at Covington Elementary care about the individual needs of students. Students and parents are greeted as they walk in the doors. This made it easier for me to become involved and stay involved in my child's education. This school cannot excel for our children if we do not take the initiative to be involved. We welcome any parent/guardian/family member to stop in at the office, PTA room, or classroom and get involved.

When my stepson started CES last year I wanted to be involved so I filled out the form the PTA sent home and waited for someone to call. In the mean time I helped out every other Friday in my sons class and I got to know the faces you always see at the school, your right it was the same parents over and over again, and my initial thought was 'Clicky PTA Moms' but when I was called to help with bookfair I did my time. While helping I got a chance to really talk to the 'Clicky Moms' and I realized they weren't clicky at all, they were the ones who really wanted to make a difference at the school so they were always there helping and they were always looking for 'Fresh_Meat'. Point is the PTA is not 'Clicky' at all, look at me I went from not knowing anyone to being Membership Chair in a year. We are happy to allow anyone who wants to help into our 'Click'!

My daughter has attended CES for 3 years and she loves it!! Although the PTA is very 'clicky' with the same people involved all the time. Educational politics is alive and well at this school, but the teachers are really so concerned about your childs progress and well being that you can not help but like the school for all the hard work the teachers do.

This school has over 2000 hours of Parent Involvement since the beginning of the school year. The parents run the book fair, fall fest, art fest, and help in the classrooms on a daily basis. We also help for field day, parties and field trips. If a parent isn't involved it is because they choose NOT to be.

This school is o.k., not a lot of parent involvement, education is very important, we should make every resource available to these teachers to help them in this scoring process

CES is an excellent school-All of the teachers are dedicated to their students'education-Parent involvment is very high-They have a wonderful music teacher, art teacher, and a very informative guidance counselor. The staff is always helpful and polite. My child is doing very well in this school-It is her third year here and I attended CES as a child. The PTA works very hard to raise money for anything that the school might need-They recently raised enough for new playground equipment! All Classrooms have computers for children to use. The only thing that I have concern about is that the school does not offer enough extracrricular activities for the older students. Over all CES is the best school in this area!

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.

In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
