Our parish (county) is always in the top 3 in the state! Denham Springs High School produces very successful students...one of them being my daughter who graduated in '06. She is now a senior at LSU and the only Truman Scholarship winner in the state this year! The great teachers at DSHS provided her with the education for her to continue a very successful college education.
Its a Great School and a good staff to work with!!! Mr. Wax was a great leader and all the kids loved him!!!
As a graduate of DSHS, and a world traveller, I can honestly say that this is a great school. It is particularly effective in maintaining safety of the students, teaching students that rules are important and there are consequences if they are broken, and to respect yourself and one another through proper dress, language, and other means. The academics were on a competitive level, and allowed for 'overachievers' to be constantly busy moving forward. The only weaknesses I have seen are in the fossil values that are upheld.
I'm a 2002 graduate of Denham Springs High School. I wouldn't change my high school experience there for anything. The quality of education is great. There are extra-curricular activites for everyone, and Denham Springs is a great city to live in. I'm now working on a graduate degree in music education. I hope I end up teaching in a school with the quality of Denham Springs.
Coming from a larger city, Denham Springs High School seems to be a good school academically. Racism is a problem (in the town in general). The sports programs seem to be out of whack - the coaches are way too consumed with their winning records than in the task of developing young atheletes. Administrators and parents are reluctant to intervene. Like many US schools, there are high instances of teen pregnacies.
I love Denham Springs High School! The teachers are great as well as the administration. They have great infastructure and are the only school I'd like to send my kids!
This School is the best and I wouldn't go anywhere else. This town is where I grew up and I think that this is where I should be and this is where God wants me!
I attend Denham Springs High School and personally, I think it is a wonderful school! There are more than enough activities that a student can become involved with, and the academics are unbelievable. The teachers are wonderful and do the most possible to help a student advance. I went to Baton Rouge schools before, and they simply do not compare. The school is somewhat strict, but I think it helps to cut down on the problems. There are not many problems that occur at Denham. Matter of fact, I would say the only problems there is might be dress code, but what teenager likes to walk around all day with his or her shirt tucked in? Overall, the school is wonderful!
Our son graduated in 2001 and is now on the Chancellors List at LSU. Great learning environment with 'old fashioned' core values like discipline, attendence, creative teaching and rewarding top performers and those who are giving 100%. Reminds me of when I was growing up.
