My daughter loves this school. We moved to Destrehan from NY and chose to live here instead of New Orleans because of this school. My child has excelled in every area and has grown up into a caring, intelligent little girl. Kudos to Ms. Forster, Ms. Shepard and Ms. Andry for being awesome teachers.

I was very pleased with New Sarpy Elementary as my son attended kindergarten and 1st grade there. We transferred from Houston where my son was identifed as a special ed student. At NES, he was identified as developmentally delayed and allowed to be a part of a regular education classroom without 'pull out' instructional support for reading, math, and speech. Each year, the teachers/specialists exuded great passion, professionalism, and strong candor in keeping me abreast of his progress and offering alternative solutions. By the end of his second grade year, my son is reading above grade level; although he is challenged in comprehension. The staff worked very diligently to support his ability to pass (vs. being placed) to the next grade level.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.
