I was a student at this school. As was my mother and grandmother. My child started pr-k last year here and it was just a horrible mess. The school is falling apart. The teachers obviously DO NOT care about these children, it is just a paycheck! The principal Ms. D has been there for way too long. If you are in good with her that is all you need. Children are treated unfairly at Oak Hill School. All that matters is who you are buddies with and your kid can get away with anything! It is a very sad situation. That school needs a complete makeover from the bottom to the top! Thing's happen at that school that should NEVER happen, EVER! Most parents with any since in that area either home school their or send them to Hope School. That is what I and several others have done and I could not be happier about the decision my husband and I made.My child was so far behind when she started at Hope. I am amazed at how far she has came since being switched It really is sad that a parent's have to pay and drive 30 miles a day just to feel that their children are safe.Biggest mistake I have EVER made as a mother was to put my child in this school. I am just so thankful that we got her out in time.
I am a graduating student of Oak Hill and now my kids go there... It is a horrible school. Most of the faculty are backstabers. They are not there for the love of the job or for the students best interest, They are therefor the paycheck which from what I understand is horrible.. There are alot of changes that need to be made .. The whole office staff needs to be fired and removed from the school system. I If I had it to do all over again my children would not go nowhere near that school!!! So if you are considering putting your kids in school there dont...
As a parent I would like to say that my children love oak hill ! We moved two yrs ago and they have missed oak hill so much and i am glad to say we will be back this yr. over all in my own experience this is the best school around the state!
As a teacher, I would like to say that the majority of the parents are great. They are very concerned about their child's education, and just want what is best. They trust our professional judgement, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to do our job..which is to teach. THEN, on the other hand, there are a few parents who make our jobs very stressful! These are the parents who think their little angels are perfect, and we are picking on them, trying to make their lives miserable! They think we are 'giving' them failing grades. Then they try to say that the child has a learning disability, when in fact, all they need is a belt across the behind, and some respect for adults. Like I said, this is a SMALL amount of parents. Most at Oak Hill are FANTASTIC!
My two boys attend Oak Hill and are very happy and successful. The faculty works very hard to ensure that each child has an opportunity to learn. Parents are encouraged to participate at every level. My children do not have special needs, but I feel certain that if a parent is not satisfied with the education that their child is receiving, the staff at Oak Hill will do everything in their power to work with the parent to resolve any problems, without exception. Yes, the building could use some updating, but the building is not what educates our children. People do!
When my child started Oak Hill, Mrs. Exie was the teacher for first grade. She was wonderful. She cared about the children and took pride in teaching them. No teacher since has compared. My child has ADHD. They seem to deal well with younger ADHD children, but when they get older, they are supposed to be like everyone else - pay attention, stay on task, and keep their mouths shut. The school does little to help them learn how to do this, the kids are supposed to magically overcome their ADHD. The teachers in the regular classroom don't have time to help the ones that fall behind because the classes are too large. Oak Hill has lost much of the caring attitude it used to have towards it's students in the years we have been here. The school needs to be updated--a new roof isn't enough.
My grandson is getting the help that he needs. He is ADHD and has had problems in the past with other schools helping to direct his talents. My daughter and her husband moved to Oakhill for her son to get the best help that he could get. So far it has been great for him. He still gets into trouble, but he now has someone to help him. Thank you Ms. D & Ms. Jowers.
