2009 Update. Forest HIll Elementary school is a model school for Accelerated Reading and is one of the few schools that implements the program correctly. It's not so much about just taking tests, it is about analyzing the data generated by the tests to target comprehension skills. This allows the teacher to focus more on what individual children need. Also, I have worked at Forest HIll for four years and I know that are test data shows that our sub-groups (minority groups included) score as well as others. Our school has been recognized two years in a row as a Distinguished Title I school because we have closed the achievement gap among subgroups. Also, with the TAP program we spend hours a week pouring over skills data and individual student data to target areas of need. Our results show growth.

This school is too focused on Accelerated Reading. The emphasis should be on whether the children are learning, not how many tests they have taken. Teacher involvement in student's improvement in core subjects are poor. There was no valid feedback. Also, I believe the teachers do not relate to minority kids in a fair manner; regardless of parental involvement.
