My son was having trouble with comprehending his work, so I requested numerous conferences with his teachers (he had one for math, social studies, and science) (the other teacher taught everything else). Still no improvement. I requested a conference with the principal, she agreed and said she would look into it and give me a call back. By this time it is christmas break, so I had to call after the holidays to speak to her again. Still nothing came of it. Then the end of the school year rolled around and they wanted to let me know that if my son didn't pass the leap that he would have to repeat the 4th grade. Somehow, he managed to pass the leap and regardless of the horrible grades they had given him, he was passed onto the 5th grade. He was sent to Leap tutoring during this school year.

The teachers are top notch and really care about their students. We are participating member of the reading first grant. students reading below grade level receive 30 to 60 minutes of intervention reading instruction on top of their regular curriculum. This was a monumental effort. Support personel are comming in to classrooms to do reading intervention. students are encouraged to behave their very best with 'jaguar compliments' which are slips given to students that are displaying exemplary behavior. At the end of the year the principal throws a huge party for all the students that had little or no behavior concerns and students that had satisfactory academic performance. There are jumping bags, dunking booths with teachers, and games set up by the pto. Franklinton Elementary is commited to exellence. Just drive by on any Sat. or Sun. and count the number of cars in the parking lot.
