i really liked this school at one point but not anymore. the principal of many years retired and somebody new took over as of the 2009-10 school year. it has been all downhill since then. however, my criticism does not apply to the pre-k program. the pre-k teacher is wonderful, couldn't get anyone better to start your kids out with. my problem is with upper grades. instead of focusing in on education it seems the kids are always being scolded for the pettiest of things. i've had my kid come home and tell me he wasn't allowed to use the bathroom all day. the look of the school is kinda ghetto. they have no gym and the playground is pretty much all blacktop. the swing/monkey bars area is much smaller than most schools. the principal doesn't care about recess. if they get any, it's not much.
Jefferson Elementary School has a close family atmosphere. Jor years Jeffereson Elementary has been rated at the top of Jefferson Parish Public Schools academically. Here was the first pilot school for online communications between schools. Here was where the online communications for the Jefferson Parish Public School Syatem was developed working with the University of New Orleans. Here all students receive an high academic learning and preparation for their future.
I'm not impressed. Thanks to the redistricting, my child is now failing because she is having a hard time understanding what the teacher wants from her. My daughter hates school now. The teachers aren't very helpful in helping those children affected by the redistricting adjust to their new surroundings.
The Pre-K program is wonderful! I was extremely pleased with the curriculum and the discipline. The teacher is a gem and loves her students! In general, I was impressed with the school leadership and the communication between between the school and home. I always felt welcome at the school and was able to be involved there to whatever degree I chose. Down sides are the lack of interest on the parents' part in the PTO. There was perhaps one meeting all year. The school lunches left a lot to be desired, but that is probably the case at all of the public schools in the area. Overall I am very pleased with the school and give a glowing recommendation for the Pre-K program!!
My child is at jefferson , a big problem is as a parent I do not feel welcome.
This was the poorest school climate I have ever been connected with. There was absolutely no discipline. There seemed to be no cohesiveness with the staff. Although many teachers were very experienced and good at what they did this was only beneficial to very few students. The only positivie thing to say about this school is that the library program is strong and under great leadership.
This school was one of the best schools I have ever attended. The Principle was outstanding and very helpful. We love Jefferson and their faculty.
My daughter attended this school the last two years. The first year was great and she did really well. Her teacher was amazing and really helpful. Last year a lot changed and they let a lot more children transfer into the school, overcrowding the classrooms. The best teachers they had retired so they brought in new teachers and that didnt work out so well either. I changed her classroom hoping it would help. The new teachers tried to work hard to help out but even I could see it was too overwhelming. With more students transfering this year to Jefferson, I am choosing not to send her back there. I think it will only get worse.
