I had heard about this school from my son's high school counselor. He had been struggling for two years in high school and going nowhere. This has been the answer to all my prayers. I've recently met with my son's teachers at the parent/teacher meeting and they all said he is doing well. He went from failing grades in high school to B's in Charter High. The staff at Charter High are very dedicated to helping the student's achieve a diploma. My son actually came to me and thanked me for enrolling him in this school. Thankyou Charter High for caring enough to help our children recieve their education.
My daughter had no motivation for school and could have cared less if she passed or failed. Now she is making all B's and her self esteem has improved greatly. What a blessing this school has been to our whole family!
Lafayette Charter is a great school for my child. He does better working by himself on a computer and their program teaches the way kids should be taught. His outlook is now positive and he is keeping focused on a goal.
When I first heard about this school, I thought it was stupid and it had something to do with bad kids, and I really didn't want to come. But now, my grades are much higher, I have enough time for my social life, as well as school. The people at LCHS are so friendly and welcoming. I can now say for the first time in my life that I LOVE school, I absolutely love it. I love all of my teachers and all of my new friends. I thought that I would want to go to Lafayette High, but honestly, I can say I will never go back. I am so happy with the choice I made to go to Lafayette Charter, if i wouldn't have, I would be getting myself into more trouble than I already was and I would probably be in juvi. I love Lafayette Charter<3
I will be the first to admit when I first heard of LCHS I was extremely sceptical to say the least. I fought my son the entire time. Then I met the principal Mrs Duhon. She knew right away that I was against the program. She sat down with me and listened to every one of my concerns and didnt have an answer for everyone but showed a willingness to work with me. I have never met someone so dedicated to her school. She knows not only every student by name but can recogninze every parent also (this is high school folks!!!) My son has excelled in this program and will finish within a month. Without this school my son would have had to test for a GED, now he will have an actual diploma and be able to step up to college. Thank you Mrs Duhon!!!!!!!! -C.M.
Obviously the comment recently added is someone who did not benefit from the school. It is not for everyone.....why were you there?? This school is for someone wanting to move on in life and get high school out of the way. My son is now in college and doing great...guess it all depends on how much you put into your experience there..as anywhere else. The person commenting sounds like possibly they made the wrong decision to attend Charter High...I am so sorry for this person..and hope he benefits from something else in life that this person decides to pursue.
I regret attending this school. They have many good teachers who really care but as for as earning fair grades, I dont think so. I found that only ONE teacher followed the grades from NOVAnet and what was in his rolebook. This school is good for someone who doesn't want to apply his/her self and wants an easy way out of highschool!
Charter is a different kind of high school experience. If you are not a very active student, and would just like to concentrate on getting out of high school, then it is for you. The only real problem you face when entering the school is that you will not really be able to determine when you are to graduate. There are no extracurricular activities here at all. At charter you are not being influenced to be involved in school. All they ask is that you come to school either 2:30-5:30 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. And if you miss a day, make it up the next day. The atmosphere is laid back, you are the adult here... you decide if you are going to do your work and when you are going to graduate. We do have rules, but every student will tell you that Charter is a completely different experience.
