Both of my kids have gone to this school. I have no other to compare it to since this is the only elementary school they attended but our experience has been great! My son is now at Sam Houston High School where his last report card was all A's including his advanced algebra class. My daughter made honor roll this report card there at MBE. They give a strong ground to stand on. In my experience, teachers always respond quickly to emails or any other forms of communication. I can't speak for the after school care program but I don't think the school should be graded on an extra service they are providing for parents. There are other options of daycare that bus from the school to their facilities in Moss Bluff. People should check out their other options. Maybe you get what you pay for.
The great schools rating for Moss Bluff is 9 and completely off base! It says there are 17 students per FTE - my son was in 4th grade and sat in a class with 28 other students!! The environment did not do justice to the word neglect. Every day the teachers just tore sheets out of the LEAP (state testing) book and taught by the LEAP sheets. These sheets prepared the students to look good on the state LEAP tests. The teachers had no time for creativity or individualized attention. In between learning LEAP sheets, my son was completely demoralized. The teachers talk to the students like they are dogs, or worse. After school care at this school is even worse. The workers are very lazy - they force the children to spend hours sitting on the floor and they are not allowed to move. The school is a total disgrace.
My children went to this school and are both now suffering the effects!! I truly do not understand why this school has such good ratings!!
I admit I am an obsessed engineer. When we found out we were transfering to LA from OH, I was deeply concerned about sending my children to just any school. I spent hours researching the schools in SW LA. I wanted to get my children into the best possible school. Based on the data provided by this excellent site, we chose MBE. My son has been in MBE for 7 mo and has learned far more than I expected he would. I understand why MBE's test scores are so high. His teacher is kind and makes learning fun. My son enjoys school and his sisters can't wait to join him at school next year. I am impressed with MBE and highly recommend this school to anyone relocating to this area.
I just had to say that we are extremely happy to have our daughter attending Moss Bluff Elementary. Her teacher appears to be 100% on the ball and pulls no punches. This is the approach kids today need and we are looking forward to her future years. We are lucky to have a school like Moss Bluff Elementary. The policies in place with regards to homework, missing school, discipline and esteem building show you that this school has its act together and puts our kids and their futures first!
