I am a parent of present and former students at Mamou High School. The thing that I have noticed the most is that academic excellence does not seem to be very important at this school. Sports is more important. This begins with the school admministrators and teaching staff. I don't see much enthusiasm for helping children advance academically. There are a couple of students, my son included, who have scored very high on the standardized tests and state exams, however the school did not even acknowledge the students or even compliment their achievement. As most people in the education profession should know, it is imperative to encourage the children of this generation and recognize when they are trying to do well. Mamou does not do this in academics, only sports.

MHS like any school has it's ups and downs. I attended this school through high school. I have three daughters one who is finished with school. They all went here. Things were not so bad when I went as they are now. Drugs and teen drinking is worst than they let on. Just to let you know there mascot is a demon. I think academically there are good if your child doesn't have a learning disability my oldest did. Parents who want to get involved can't unless there in the inner circle. Football is the main focus of this school. Not much of a band, and no drama. If it were not for my daughters insistent to stay with there friends I would have left this school and town.
