I'm not impressed with this school at all! My son doesn't enjoy school since we moved here. Faculty plays favorites alot with teachers' children. My son has been harassed by a couple of kids and when I brought it to their attention it was just dismissed. It looks like they all would strive to bring the school up to par to qualify for more grants to improve the school. My son came home with headaches during the I-LEAP test because they worked them all day. After testing the kids had to do extra work instead of releasing stored up energy. They really need to look at other successful schools in Louisiana and take a few notes.
I have a son that started kindergarden at valverda and a daughter that transfered from FRA. The improvment that she made in just 2 6 weeks was amazing! The principal and staff were wonderful and my son is going to the 1st grade this year. I would incourage anyone to give THIS public school a chance. All of the teachers are wonderful
I have two older children 17yrs. and 19yrs. old who atteded Valverda. I have no regrets on their eduction but I had a five year old who started last year and it was a nightmare. The new principal did a very poor job in her decision making. I had to go to my school board rep. to get a retired teacher to teach. The attitude of all employees and parents have dropped. At this time I would advise no one to enter any of our schools in Pointe Coupee Parish. Homeschooling is a real option for concerned parents who can't afford private schooling.
I am an educator, and my child attends Valverda. I feel he is receiving an excellent education. I believe most of the teachers are top notch. I am happy with the school and its administration. My child is doing well and loves school. Valverda provides an atmosphere that makes learning fun and important. In the past I have had concerns about the reading program; however, I find the new program to be excellent. Unless something unforseen occurs, my child will continue his education at Valverda and move to Livonia High School.
Valverda has been a wonderful school in the past, and I really believe that there may be hope for it sometime in the near future. However, since the new principal has been assigned (2003-2004)to our school, it has become total chaos. I understand that she may have been great as a teacher, but let's face it, she just isn't cut out to be principal material. Her actions last year regarding changes in our school have shown at least that. The children should come first. Not what other people may say or think, or what she feels should take place, and after all, these are elementary children, not high school kids or adults. Shouldn't the parents be informed before drastict changes before they take place? Like the saying goes first impressions live forever, well these years are our childrens 'first impressions' and they deserve better than this!
This is a wonderful school. My kids love it and enjoy the teachers. I took them out of our local school and being them 20min each day to school just so they can have the great teachers that this school has.
I have a daughter in the 4th grade and she has attended Valverda since starting school, my husband and I are very pleased with the school, teachers and principle. My husband is an employee of the Pointe Coupee School Board and would not have our children attend in other school. I do wish more parents would become involved for the sake of our school.
