The discipline staff needs to help with the problems faced at Ehret... I liked taking fifth period off. The school can improve by increasing the activities like pep rallies, dances, festivals and other activities and increase awareness for bullying.
As a current student at Ehret , if you apply yourself you can get a education equal to a private school. I love going here. There are a few teachers that aren't so great but overall the staff is fantastic . As far as security it could be a little better but last year they put cameras everywhere so it should be better. Lunch isn't so bad and the sports and clubs are uncountable. There's no possibly way your kid can't find anything he/she likes there according to that. The school has all kinds of kids of different everything (they are all unique) which means they are bound to find friends. Considering moving your child from a different school to here ? Do it , you won't regret it .
No school is perfect, but Ehret's faculty and staff do what they can to offer the best to those willing to reach for it. I wouldn't trade my time at Ehret for anything.
'I am a former student at John Ehret. I think the school has a great atmosphere for students. Some teachers aren't the best, but You still can learn a lot. The footbaal and basketball team are the best.
I as a former student of JE have to say that i agree with both sides of the argument. Some teachers come to school in my eyes just to collect pay, others are the best you will ever come across. As far as the lunch menu goes i never had a problem with it! Being that the school is so large it could be way better with the protection of the students. Over all it's a okay school.
I am a current student at John Ehret.I love attending this school.John Ehret has all kinds of career classes and clubs.I would recommend this school to any parent.
As a graduate of John Ehret, I have to say that its not the safest place to be. Coming from a private school system all my life I was very uncomfortable being in a rundown, poorly organized, oversized school. There are too many students and not enough discipline. Without different types of security systems you are putting children, students, friends, scholars, mothers, fathers, and love ones at a high risk, especially with the horrific things that are being done these days. The public school system itself should really open their eyes and relize what is really going on in the school systems today. I have been in a classroom where there were drugs, students on drugs, and even objects that should not be there.
As a student of JE, I think the school is very well protected and educated in what the we as students need to succeed in life. Furthermore, JE helps us to achieve our educational goals. Yes, most of the teachers, especially the Art staff, do not know the Jefferson Parish School System Art Department standards. John Ehret is providing a sound career base enviroment.
Every school's success or failure can be determined by the person leading the school. From my conversations with the principal, I feel that this school has the captain of the titanic at helm. The only people that will feel this is the graduating kids from the school. For the most part, the principal is preparing the bulk of the school to either work at McDonalds or go to the military. A small percentage will go on college and that is sad. I think that the scores of other schools and this school should be made known public. Be it email, newspaper, etc. It's just sad that this principal had been guiding this school for nine years and the school hasn't progressed since.
I as an employee would not recommend anyone to send their child to this school. I do agree with one of the parents. Some of the teachers do not know the curiculum. As for as the staff, they cant even get the lunch menus together. The children have to eat the same thing every day. Hamburgers and pizza. That shouldnt have to be. The school is over crowded and the sercurity they suppose to have is a joke . Outside kids and adults still come on campus and do what they want. It is a shame for a school this big not have the best .
Now that my oldest son has graduated from JH, I will probably send my younger one to a Private School. I will admit that they have several electives to choose from. However, when it comes to the administration--the 'Right Hand' does not know what the 'Left Hand is doing. As a parent, this left me with having to answer questions from my child that I could not answer. And yes I was always there, at the PTA Meetings and so forth. Being the largest school in Louisiana has it's draw-backs.
My Niece was a student of this school in the 9th grade and was being given ditto sheets to do everyday in her classes. When I asked the teachers and staff about this I was told that the teachers are just learning the information and cannot help the students because they dont know how to do the work themselves. This is a concern to me that our teachers arent educated enough to teach what the students are required to learn. I was givin report cards with failing grades because all the REAL teachers are over honor classes and normal students are getting the teachers that cant explain the work so they just sit there and cant learn. I have since removed my niece from this school and she is doing excellent in her new surroundings with teachers who care about the students and not the paycheck.
As a former graduate of this school, I will have to say this is the best school period. I had so much fun and learned so much, I breezed through college. The school now has more to offer then when I graduated. How could I not want my son to go there? To Cynthia, why did you hate it so much? Did you get involved with any clubs or play any sports? Or did you just sit there and day dream? I would recommend good ole John Ehret any day of the week and twice on sunday. Geaux Patriots!
Having attended this school, I can't recommend it if you can afford private school. About the only thing good at this school is their football team...and that's it.
This school has provided my son with several opportunites to excell. The library staff does a great job at bringing technology to the kid's fingertips. The staff is wonderful. When my child has a problem, the school always welcomed his suggestions. They offer so many electives and they are also offering Forensics which several schools do not offer! This is a wonderful educational institution, and I highly reccomend it. They have so many incentives, and I know that its the largest highschool facility in LA, and therefore, my child has made so many friends that, they are countless. This is the perfect environment to expose your child to people. I definitely agree with Ms. Jennings above, and, my son will stay till the end!
This school to me is excellent. It provided a good enviorment to my child. Under this good enviorment my child got good grades and enjoyed going to school. Every since my daughter left this school here happiness and grades in school have dimmered tremendously. Due to this, my child will be attending this school here next and final years.
