Estell Elementary is one of the best schools my son attended for the whole 6 years.

I believe the Principal is an excellent leader! She seems to care about the kids. This is my daughter and nieces second year at Estelle. My nieces went to C.T. Janet before attending Estelle and the experience was horrible! I love that the Principal and Teachers at Estelle encourages parental involvement. At C.T. Janet you had to make an appointment and be 'picked' to go on field trips with your child. You could not just volunteer. The transition was easy and I am so happy that we changed to Estelle. I only wish they has more extracurricular activites for grades other than fourth and fifth.

This is my daughter second year here at Estelle. I have worked with the teachers as well as my child who has ADHD and I enjoy haveing the same teacher as she did last year. We had to adjust since Katrina. It was hard but with the Estelle's help and the faculty's help we were blessed, now my child is sucessful.

This is an excellent public school. The principal is caring and the special education program is good. The GIfted program is wonderful!

Estelle Elementary was wonderful prior to 2005. Since that time the school seem to suffer from the lost of two very good assistant principals, who seemed to care more about the students than the principal does. Estelle does a wonderful job with the Special Needs students, but the faculty and staff seem to take the regular education students for granted, which is unfortunate. All students deserve to be treated with love and respect. Also, Estelle has an unusually low number of non-white student in its GEMS program. Often times, the parents of Non-white students are not even aware this program exist for those student who display exceptional academic ability. Estelle use to be a great school, but not any longer.

I am the parent of a child who is at Estelle now and the parent of another who came from Estelle. I can't complain about anything. Both my children were in Special Ed. I really feel that if it were not for the teacher they had they would not be what they are today. My daughter has moved out of special ed and is in all regular ed classes and is doing fine. My son is currently at Estelle and is doing well both had the same teacher, I feel that they need to learn at a slowere pace and on different levels and I can say that Estelle was able to provide them with what they needed. Parents are always welcome to Estelle and are always welcome to help in their child's class, I know my son benefits from having his parent at school helping out. I have all praises.

My son started the year in another Jefferson Parish school where they were not helpful. I moved him to Estelle where they have bent over backwards to help him. His teacher, Miss Tiffany, has worked with us to make sure our child is successful in school and finds a love for school. Everyday he wakes up happy and ready to attend school. I believe this is essential to be becoming a life long learner. We are happy with our move to Estelle and feel he will get the all around academics and caring from the teachers that a child needs to be successful.

Please do not make a lump assessment of Estelle by your experience with one teacher. I have been an Estelle parent for eight years now. In my experience the teachers do have their priorities straight, it's the parents who don't.

Both of my children are going to a different school now and my opinion of Estelle is not good. Teachers@Estelle act like they have no time to make a difference. I say get your priorities straight.

My child used to attend Estelle, up until fourth grade, that is when I pulled her out. The lower grades that she was in were wonderful. When she started the fourth grade the curriculium was ridiculous, learning things they would never retain until the time they needed it, and the teachers basically in my opinion set them up to fail. Giving them homework that takes 5 hrs. to complete, spelling words are given one day only to have the test the very next day. I was very dissappionted to have to pull her out, because up until this piont I was very pleased.

Estelle Elementary is a great place to learn. I was concerned with my kindergartener entering a large elementary school for the first time. The faculty and staff made me feel comfortable right away. Any concerns I had throughout the school year were addressed immediately. My kindergartener enjoys going to school and looks forward to interacting with classmates and his teacher (Ms. Morvant). He has enjoyed a variety of field trips and school activities. (So have I.) Estelle staff is very organized. Organization is very important to me. The school has a great parenting center which every parent should visit and become familiar with. I am happy we live in the Estelle school district and did not even consider enrollment in a charter school, because my satisfaction with Estelle Elementary is very high.

My son is a fourth grader at Estelle Elementary, He is adhd and has been through two catholic schools. Estelle is by far the best school for his needs. His teachers, Ms.Hech & Ms. Bourg are very caring and understanding. They love what they do, and it shows. The principal, Ms.Daniilidas, is an angel on earth. She knows ALL of her 1000 students by name.(and the parents} She has an open door policy for her students as well as the parents. There are many special needs students that attend Estelle. But they are treated as if there are no boundaries. I recommend that you visit Estelle and their wonderful staff to see the difference that they are making in these childrens lives. I can assure you that when my child is no longer attending Estelle, that I will be a supporter whether it is monetary or physical.

My daughter is in her last month at Estelle & in Ms. Jenniskens class. She has been blessed with the opportunity to attend Estelle for five years. She has nothing but praise for the teachers who tought, cared & even disciplined her. My son is a special education child & needs constant supervision. He communicates with babbling & face/body language. In his own way he has communicated to me that he is happy & safe at school. I feel confident when I hand him over to their care. I know Ms. Murphy & her attendants give 100 percent & more to their students. Of course, It doesn't hurt when you have a competent Principal like Ms. Jackie Daniilidis. Thank you.

I remain very impressed with the overall quality of the teaching staff at Estelle elementary. My daughter was a pre-k 4 student (now in the 1st grade) and my son started in 1st who is now in 4th grade. Both are in the gems program and my son is also in g/t. With each grade increase, the teachers prove to live up to and surpass my expectations and that of my husband, who is also a teacher in the jefferson parish school system. Hats off to mrs. Delger, mrs. Morgant, mrs. Degraw, mrs. Faust, mrs. Lisa rodriguez, mrs. Marie gilbert and mrs. Jenniskins. They are a great group of dedicated educators who take their jobs very seriously and might i add, it is not an easy task. They excell in their jobs under the great leadership of Mrs. Jackie Daniilidis, a principal who cares!

I have a fourth grader and a second grader at Estelle. My son has been in Estelle since they started the Pre-K program. My children are always striving to do their best. The teachers here are great. They make learning fun for the kids. They have the annual Vocabulary Parade. The kids get to pick a word and make a costume. They also have to write the definition for the word. This is just one of the ways they make learning fun. I enjoy volunteering every year for the Spring Fling. It is so much fun. I look forward to this event every year.

I am a parent who has a ninth grader that attended Estelle from grades K-5 and a third and first grader who are presently attending Estelle. My oldest son loved Estelle. He excelled with the help of the teachers there. He won the young authors award and had many other achievments while attending Estelle. All of his teachers were wonderful. My third grader is in Lisa Rodriguez's class, she is a recipient of the Milken award which is a national award given only to very special teachers. My third grader is a challenge to teach, however Mrs. Rodriguez has proven to be up to the challenge. My first grader has Mrs. DeGraw who is also a wonderful teacher. She pushes the children to excel and they are constantly challenged to do the best that they can. The principals, teachers and staff work very well with the approximately 1,000 students at Estelle.

My stepson has been a student at this school for a few years and the teachers have not learned how to respect the rights of the students. Behavior Reports are supposed to be a sign of punishment not to be used as a means of embarrassing students. The principal of this school does not understand the challenges of raising a physically challanged student. I am a responsible parent that takes full responsibility of my childs actions. This is to warn other parents to the reality of what is going on in this school.

My daughter is only in third grade this year. I am already upset that she will eventually have to leave Estelle. It is such a wonderful school. I attended Estelle myself and it has only grown and improved for the best. My daughter wakes up every morning excited to go to school. That is very important. I would do anything to help this school out because they help our children and set goals for our children. And most of all they trully care about the students.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.

In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
