This school is full of animals. The teachers teach for state tests, the kids learn nothing but how to pass the test. I have seen so many kids get passed through the St.Bernard schools system only to drop out of college because they cant to the work. When A kid takes Algebra I & II in HS and cant even pass Pre Algebra at the local Jr College there is a problem. The kids are cruel to one another, and to be honest the kids are a bit on the trashy side. I can't wait to move out of the Parish and escape this school district. The postive reviews and ratings your seeing on this site are from parents who are happy there 21 year old kid finally graduated.

Teacher effectiveness: Very ineffective

Most of the teachers I have met, can barely speak English, the bottom of the barrel teaches in St.Bernard

Amount of homework: Not enough

There is very little home work given, as they know the students won't do it. Its a joke.

Develops grit: Strongly disagree

This school could care less if students do well, or drop out. I have seen them pass kids to the next grade who can barely read, and behave like animals.

Develops respect: Strongly disagree

This school teaches nothing but how to pass the state test, and the common core. They staff and students treat each other very poorly.

Develops empathy: Strongly disagree

Again the Teachers, and other office staff are mean to students, could care less about them. The staff talks down to students.

The kids steal from one another, lie, cheat and bully other kids. What does this teach kids? It teaches them to lie, cheat and bully people in general. The staff at this school bullies kids.

N.P. Trist is the school that my two boys went to years ago and now two of my grandchildre go there and love the school. That what counts if the children are happy.

I have twin boys who started at Trist in 1/09 coming from a middle school in Poplarville, Ms. They put them in Honors classes and they have done wonderful. I can not say enough about this school. The principal is wonderful and my children love school and don't want to miss a day....

Trist has been a wonderful experience for my daughters; I have 1 in 8th and 1 in 6th. Both in honors and have done extremely well. I feel each teachers they have had, has pushed them that extra mile to get more out of them academically. My youngest is in academic games, and LOVES it. Extracurricular you ask? My 8th grader is in Student Council, 4-H Jr. Leader and a Cheerleader. My 6th grader is in Academic games, Jr. Beta and Cheerleading. To give you a little feedback: once the girls missed the bus and I was already at work, I could not leave. The girls were going to walk to school because they did not want to stay home. So THEY called a few family members before the found one who could bring them to school. Now to me 'That says something about N.P. TRIST!' I love this school.

My son was in the 6th grade honors program last year and he had the most awesome teachers, Mrs. Martin & Mrs. Tortorich. I was very impressed with this school!

Trist has provided an excellent education for my daughter. The honors program is wonderful. The teachers & administration have provided an environment that made learning enjoyable. They have truly prepared her for the transition to high school.

Trist is a truly child-centered school with an amazing faculty and administration. Besides a wonderful academic program, they have an outstanding fine arts program.

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
