I went to this school and it was a big mistake. Academics and teachers are pathetic and if you haven't spent your whole life in a Lutheran church and/or Lutheran elementary school, you are pretty much an outcast and it's hard to be accepted. There's also a serious lack of discipline, kids pretty much get away with anything with little or no consequences. I'm surprised this school is still operating.
This school is going down hill really fast. The classes are small because, they can not get anyone to enroll their children there. I agree, administration is uncooperative and out of touch. The principal is in over his head. The athletics department is suffering badly. Their aren't enough kids for adequate teams in any sport. The teachers often have no previous teaching experience.Because of the enrollment difficulty, there's a clause in the contract that states, if your child is no longer able to attend due to expulsion, academics, etc. you are still obligated to pay the remaining tuition. Other schools in the area cancel the contract and you are no longer required to pay. This school is in dire straits and desperate. If it was a public school, the state would have intervened by now.
Small classes, teachers who care, a supporting, encouraging and safe environment, and an education tailored to the individual child have worked together to build my daughter's self esteem, work ethic, attention to detail and self motivation.
So far, so good. My daughter has the opportunity to participate in all sports as a freshman - something she could not do in public school due to the sheer numbers of kids trying out, is getting a good education from teachers who truly care about their students, and actually looks forward to going to school! I have not felt that she was getting enough out of the educational system since the hurricane. There is no comparison on any level to the public school system, and we transferred from St. Charles Parish.
The student teacher ratio is excellent -- one of my sons has four classmates in one of his classes! The individualized attention to my sons has made them less anxious about learning. The academic focus encourages individual fulfillment (lots of different classes including anthropology!) to be fully prepared for college and earn TOPS (or other) scholarships. A wide range of athletic activities is available for both genders -- volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, track are all very active. Other activities include chess club, art program, band and service. This is a very Christian focused school with no cursing allowed, no disrespect allowed to one another or the teachers. Very structured. Excellent for ADHD children. The faculty is young and excited about teaching. The administration is always available to parents. I am very excited to have my children at this school.
LHS has dropped in quality over the past year. Aside from outstanding upper math/chemistry teacher, academics are woeful. Administration is uncooperative, out of touch, and over their head. Athletic teams are equally woeful. If this were a public school, it would be in corrective action.
