i am a former graduate of Glenbrook School. I can only say wonderful things about this institution. There is an amazing, caring faculty, and, as a student, you have opportunities to excel in a small class environment. I was able to get TOPS, along with many other merit aid scholarships for college. In sports, kids are able to get a chance to play and actually learn athletic skills instead of sitting on a bench all four years. The core values of this institution will always remain. The 'family' and relationships that students and parents develop with others involved with the school is invaluable.
As a parent of a Glenbrook grad and two still in attendance, I have to say that this is a strong school in the Honors Programs and offers great opportunities for sports. There is a serious problem with college preparation for the average child. Last three grad. classes not were not prepared for college English or Science, unless were honors students. Lots of potential and parental support here, but not any leadership from the top tiers. Used to be top notch, although now you have alot of administrators and yet no real administrating. Communication at this small school is seriously lacking, causing much strife and chaos to filter down to families. No real leadership in Atheletics, except for football. Strength in Honors Program is commendable and if you have one that qualifies here, Glenbrook is the place for you. GHS offers a safe and wholesome enviornment. Nice folks, just disorganized.
As the parent of a college student who attended Glenbrook School I feel that the school prepared my son for college. The current Headmaster and both assistant headmasters went above and beyond what would have been expected in helping my son.
Glenbrook is a very good school. It is my fourth school to atend and by far the best. I will graduate this May and have already been offered four scholarships plus have earned TOPS. I read the slightly negative comments about the Headmaster and have to disagree. I have found the Headmaster and both the Assistant Headmasters to be fair. It was recently in the local paper that the Headmaster was voted Best Principal in Minden. One other thing, our school has won the Louisiana Tech Literary Rally Sweepstake Award for the last four or five years. I am very proud that my diploma will be from Glenbrook.
I am an alumne of Glenbrook, of which I am honored and highly grateful. To help us make the decision about attending this school, we had a multitude of faculty, parents and students, involved with Glenbrook, sing it's praises. It wasn't long that we were singing too! I was given opportunities to excell in more ways than could be imagined. The support and encouragement was endless. I graduated with scholarships to help pay for my collage education, as well as did more than 3/4 of my graduating class. When I attened colege, I was more than prepared for all of the classes. And because I was adequately prepared for the ACT, I was able to skip a few of the basic classes. I graduated collage in 4 years and am currently a teacher myself. There is no doubt my children are attending Glenbrook School.
After researching other private schools in the area, we were elated to find Glenbrook School in Minden, LA. We felt, from the beginning, that our daughter would not be just another face lost in a sea of many. We were immediately struck by the warmth and personal attention--to our daughter, and to us as a family. Although most of the faculty is friendly and the school provides many academic and extracurricular activities/opportunuties, we have found that there seems to be a lack of adequate communication. This exists at various times and at varying degrees between administration and faculty. Therefore, this trickles into communication issues between teachers and parents. Other than this one issue, we have been extremely pleased with the quality of education and opportunity that Glenbrook School provides. By far, they exceed any standards that we measure them by, as parents and as new members of the Minden community.
As the parent of three children attending Glenbrook School in Minden, LA, (one each in elementary, middle and high school) I can say that I have been very pleased with the overall education my kids are receiving. Glenbrook is staffed by a group of caring and committed educators, with both long tenured as well as new teachers that bring experience and enthusiasm to the learning environment. The honors program allows those students, who choose, the opportunity to enroll in courses that provide more intellectual challenge. The non honors classes also provide challenging course work. Each Glenbrook student is provided with a great opportunity to receive a solid, well-rounded education. The Board of Trustees and Board of Directors work together to assure the staff, plant and facilities provide a safe and productive learning environment for each child. I am pleased that my children have the opportunity to attend a school of this caliber.
For those parents of Northwest Louisiana wishing to give their children an excellent college prep education, Glenbrook is your school. Glenbrook has made great strides in several educational areas. This year more of our students placed at the state literary rally than did students from any other North Louisiana private school. Our students also continue to maintain high test scores on the ACT and GEE tests. More of our students placed first at the recent Academic Betterment Competition rally than did students from any other school in our association. Also, Glenbrook recently received an exemplary rating after completing the SACS review. We will begin our 2007-2008 school year with two new grants - one to enhance our Accelerated Reader program and one in Algebra I. For those interested in sports, we have a wide variety of activities from which to choose. Check out our website @ glenbrookschool.com to find out more about our school.
Glenbrook School is not unlike many small private schools in smaller towns. There are a couple of excellent faculty members. Mr. Wayne Orr is a remarkable teacher and any student is lucky to be in his class. The same cannot be said for the remainder of the faculty. The headmaster is a pleasant professional who has no control over the faculty. He has the difficult job of finding quality teachers (particular in the sciences and math) without the benefit of a financial incentive. Salaries fall below those paid public school teachers. The parents are a caring involved group, who sometimes become frustrated with the failure of leadership. The sports programs are very good offering a number of opportunities for the students to excel and enhance their self-esteem. Discipline is erratic.
