If I had it to do over again, I would homeschool my child before sending him to Lakeshore. It was a terrible experience. We didn't even realize how bad it was until we moved to another district. At his current school my child is thriving. He is organized. He is a productive member of his class. He no longer roams the halls or his classroom. His social skills are right on target. At Lakeshore he was just being babysat and passed along. I hope Lakeshore will make major changes and improve for the sake of their children and their future.
I went to Lakeshore for first grade through fifth grade and my favorite teachers are from my time there. I am now a freshman in high school and live in Tenn., but I remember fondly all my time there
I have two children at this school and they love it. This is a great school. The staff is outstanding and the PTO does a wonderful job. Lakeshore is like one big family.
I do not recommend this school if you think your child is going to be struggling in a subject. I have one and was told since she is not failing she doesn't qualify for help, nor did she get any. I would suggest moving 2 miles down the road and enroll them in Swartz Elementary. Much nicer school and programs
We are originally from PA and moved to the LA area in October.I have three boys that attend this school and they love it.When we first moved here they were going to a different school and cried every morning that they did not want to go to school. When we transferred to lake shore it was the best move we could have done. The teachers are really receptive and care about the kids we were welcomed with open arms and everyone is so nice and friendly.I could not imagine my kids going to another school...and I no longer have to drag my kids kicking and screaming.
School is nicely located in Chicago north, teachers are friendly. Place itself is cramped, kids often do not get much space to play. My son became sick after initial 2 day and was sick for some time. It is a risky decision, to say the least and with your kids I will not suggest to take risks.
My daughter was in Mrs. Strickland's Kindergarten class this year. This was Mrs. Strickland's first year at Lakeshore. She came from River Oaks. Her teaching skills were top notch. She provides a great combination of love/discipline/teaching that is unsurpassed. We had lots of outside activities as well. The kids performed plays, had parties, & she kept in close communication with the parents which is very important to me. Everytime you walk in the school you will see Mr. Crain, the Principal. The office staff are friendly & efficient & are always there to help. The PTO was top notch! I look forward to the next 6 years at this school.
My daughter is in the PreK program this year. She loves it! The teachers are wonderful. My daughter loves to go to 'Big Girl School', as she calls it. I think Lakeshore has done nothing but improve over the past 2 years. I hope they continue to grow. - Jenifer Lee
I love Lakeshore and think that it is a wonderful school! I am and has always been very overprotective of my child however, at Lakeshore I have been able to relax because I know my child is in good hands! I know i've made the right decision by buying a home in Lakeshore school district.
I have found Lakeshore to be a great school. I would like to see the internet connected as soon as possible in all classrooms. Other than this, I think the school is doing a great job.
My family and I love Lakeshore Elementary! They give my child individual attention and care about his education as well as his self worth. My son has made straight A's the entire time that he has attended Lakeshore. He has loved all of his teachers, especially Mrs. Abbott. I would highly recommend this school to anyone moving into our area! Hats off to you teachers, Mr. Crain, and Mr. Albritton! You're the best!
Boy, I just read the reviews on Lakeshore and am astonished that some people think it is on a 'downward spiral'. It sounds as if that parent might have one of the chilren that do get in fights and might need EXTRA supervision. I've never been in the school where teachers weren't teaching and children were unsupervised. The teachers at Lakeshore, especially the upper grade teachers (4-6) have a harder time because of all the hormones flying around, (I should know, I have an eighth grader that attended Lakeshore and loved it!)but they continue to bring the children the best education possible using new and innovative techniques. Keep up the good work, Lakeshore!
I think Lakeshore is a wonderful school! I think you get what you put into education. The school has a wonderful staff as well as students. I think we need to continue to be positive!
My child has attended Lakeshore for the past two years. She is recieving a quality education and has been treated great by all of her teachers. The school has really came alive with its new leadership. The new principal Mr. Scott Crain has been a very big asset to the school adding a fresh approach to education. Thing have improved and continue to meet my expectations. My daughters (including my 2 year old) look forward to many years at Lakeshore.
This is for the parent who does not like Lakeshore Elementary and would like to move: Do it! Move! Or better yet, don't send your child to the free preschool program that Lakeshore provides for the surrounding community. You could continue paying child care (that is if you work) and that spot could be left available for a parent who really wants their child to be there. Your children will always have a bad attitude about the school because they learn it from home!
I'm really shocked at the last review for Lakeshore! I've had my 4 children in this school for the past 5 years and LOVE it. All the teachers have been loving and concerned for my children. Even when a teacher had to deliver bad news about my child, it was done in a professional and caring manner. Most of the time I have been extremely pleased and every time I had concerns I could go to the teacher or principal and felt satisfied that I was heard even when things may not have necessarily gone the way I had initially thought they should. I am so sorry that someone would feel they must come air their sour grapes on a public venue like this rather than go to the school with their concerns.
Lakeshore is the worst school I have every put my two children in and it scares me that my 3rd child is going to be going to preschool there this coming August. I hate to think that my children have to go to that school, but I don't have a choice. The teachers there (with the exception of 4 or 5) could really care less about the kids and would rather them be zombies on ADD or ADHD medication, it RIDICULOUS! If I could move, I would, to get the kids into Swartz, much, much better school.
Lakeshore has a lack of communication between staff and parents. This communication barrier has caused parents to be less involved in our childrens education because we are not kept informed.
Lakeshore continues on a downward spiral. Changing principals again. Teacher morale low. Student morale lower. Parents have all the burden of communication. Fights are regular. Playground supervision almost non-existant other than peer mediators.
The school has a problem with discipline especially in the bathrooms and during the mornings there is a general lack of supervision. Some teachers are highly motivated and helpful others are not. The new principal, Ms. Baker, is a wonderful addition to the leadership at the school. However most hard core teaching happens between January and March before the 'testing' starts, from March on it is a free ride for the kids and very little learning going on.
