Since Ms. Roberson has been at Coteau, the school has done a complete 180. She has brought family values back to Coteau and has improved the learning environment tremendously. You don't hear teachers yelling at students; you see children who are excited about going to school; the principal always greets the students with a hug and a smile... I'm so grateful to Ms. Roberson for coming to Coteau. I hope she never leaves.

We moved here from another state, and I was very nervous to send my kids here with the other reviews. To my pleasent surprise we love this school. The staff and principal are great. It is my understanding that the principal we have now came a couple of years ago and things are so much better. As for the older reviews there old and not for the staff that is there now. They do some great things for the kids, and I would recemend this school to anyone.

There definitely needs to be some changes that take place at this school. Maybe with the new administration next year it will take a turn for the better.

My daughter went to coteau Elementary and now my grandson does. The school has always had an excellent discipline policy and some of the best teachers in New Iberia. Even with an ADHD child the school has been excellent to work with. I would send any child of mine there again.

My wife and I sold our house in Baton Rouge because we were under the inpression that this school is a better school. We were wrong. We have two children in the same grade and one of them finds the work to be very easy and the other finds the work to be most difficult. We have tried to get help for our child whom is not doing well however; this school would rather offer their after school time to children who scored well on their leap tests. That is correct, the school does not offer after school tutoring for children who need it but only to those who score high enough on the leap test. Talk about padding your school's testing score average.

I went to this school as a child and loved it. They had wonderful teachers and great parent involvement but now that I have a child their in the 1st grade I am very dissatisfied with what the school has become. It is almost impossible to communicate with the teachers and you cannot call the school without the secretaries screening the calls on caller I.D. ( I guess this is what the fundraisers pay for)so if you call more than once and they don't want to talk then they just don't answer. My son is a slow learner and struggled through kindergarten and is now having a hard time in 1st and the teacher has yet to return my calls.Let's just say that if I could afford to move to another school district I'd do so in a heartbeat.

I have 2 children one going to 2nd grade the other going to 6th. Now as I have never had trouble with my younger child my oldest child would never have passed if it was not for the teachers and all of staff. Through communication with his teachers and principal we developed a strategy that he would benifit from. It worked!! I do agree that we should have PTC or PTA meetings but I believe that all of the teachers and staff are doing above and beyond what is required of them. So for those of you who disagree with me please show your support, instead of complaning that someone is not good enough get out there and help make it better. It is easy to sit back and talk now let's see you get out and do something. Great School Thank you Debbie Viator for all you do!!

I am a parent of a 4th and a 6th grader who will both be repeating their grades although they did extremely well at other schools. Our whole family is dissatisfied with this school. Something is wrong with communication between teachers and students. Favorites are played and parent concerns are not addressed. Needs a PTO or PTA concept that works here. We are seeking another school district that meets our needs and expectations.

I think that above all we have a nice little school. Whether or not the parents agree on the way it's ran, lots of us disagree. We do not like the fact that there are no PTC meetings, on a monthly basis. There is very little communication between the principal and parents. We simply want to know what is going on and where is all the money that we raise is going. She sends out fundraiser after fundraiser. Where are the funds going! We have no school spirit. The kids and teachers are like in a boot camp. Just like having a caller I.D. box, for what reason is that called for may I ask. You should be answering that phone no matter who it is. Every call should be answered , not monitored! I can go on forever! Just not enough time in this lifetime to tell you that. Debbie Viator needs to smile and get more involved, so that her teachers will want to stay!

The school has great communication with the parents whether it is discipline or praise. Rural school with good parental participation enjoy having a child in attendance and one who advanced to another school.
