Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Audubon has been ranked the best public elementary school in New Orleans for 25 years with another school in the city. Special education specialists, teachers and administrators address all types of learning styles and provide support to the parents. The environment is racially diverse, friendly and caring. Audubon believes it takes a village to raise a child, and they succeed at doing it. My son went to Audubon Pre-K through 8th. It was not always easy, he did not make straight As, but the teachers gave him the learning skills that allowed him to get into the best public high school in the city. Expectations are high for students, teachers and parents. The PTO holds fundraisers year round. As a parent, you are expected to do everything you should to support your child. In return, Audubon will teach your child to keep trying and not give up. What a better education than this ... ?

Audubon Charter has been wonderful at focusing on the development of the whole child which includes academics, the arts, and most importantly, teaching children to be self-motivated! The development here goes beyond just making the numbers work for standardized test scores. I appreciate what this school does. Keep improving!

Had I known how awesome ACS was, I would have sent my oldest child there instead of paying extremely expensive tuition. The teachers and staff go above and beyond the call of duty to help. Ms. Kellermann is just a jewel in the French Program. I cannot wait to hear my kid talk about his day. It was so hard to get in but I thank God every day for this school. I love this school.

First, you must understand that Audubon is 2 schools in 1. L'Ecole Franco-Americaine is not just another immersion program. It is a french school with french citizens teaching just as they would back home. I have had my children in the Montessori School for a total of 7 years. The Pre-K through 1st grades are marvelous Montessori learning environments. Grades 2-6 have not been as Montessori as we would like but more of the teachers are becoming Montessori certified so we have great hopes! I have no experience yet with grades 7 & 8 but right now there is just 1 class for each grade level. We need another building for the Middle School to grow. We have dance, drama, art, concert band, P.E., and lots of after school classes available. Our PTO is very active and raises lots of money, primarily to be sure our teachers have assistants. Love it! BEST OF THE BEST.

Audubon goes beyond teaching basic skills to helping children learn to use their skills in thinking critically and considering how to impact their environment and the world at large in positive ways. Teachers are concerned about the personal and academic development of each student and communcate well with parents. The school community of students, teachers, and parents operates as a family with common goals of providing the best education for our children and modeling good citizenship and concern for others.

I had extremely bad experience with the French part of the school. My son went to the preschool part and they kicked him out after two months. He has never had any issues before or since but suddenly there he was labeled as the problem child, the aggressive child. He is very sweet but he is a boy. They expected him to sit silently at his desk. He is 3 years old. That is impossible. I have heard that from several other parents of boys - they hated the French part, loved the Montessori part. They are extremely strict and absolutely unwilling to work with an age appropriate behavior.

Audubon is a community not just a school. The atmosphere is a welcoming one. Students are treated as individuals by their teachers while learning how to become part of greater humankind. Watching children in the lower elementary classes learn concepts that are traditionally taught at the high school level with ease and understanding because of the use of manipulatives is awe inspiring. This is only on the Montessori side. There is also a fabulous French ecole where children are taught in French from pre-K through 8th grade. Wow, what a place.

Audubon Charter School is an amazing school in Orleans parish that rivals any other public or private school in the parish. Highly trained faculty, staff and administration permeate the culture of the school. There are 'specialty' teacher that provide movement classes, music classes, art classes, and gifted resources. It is two schools rolled into one. Half of the school is a French school and half is a Montessori school. There is no other place in Orleans parish that offers a free, quality Montessori education from a 3 year old pre-K program to 8th grade. The French school is not merely a few French immersion classes; the children (3 year old Pre-K through 8th grade) are taught by native-speaking French teachers that are outstanding. The Montessori students benefit from the French teachers by having French classes a few times a week in addition to hearing French spoken throughout half of the school. Parental involvement is respected, appreciated, and contributes to the success of the school.

The ideology and practice behind Audubon Charter School is in keeping with the change we voted for in electing President Obama. Our future is in the hands of the parents and educators willing to go the extra mile to insure the solid academic and cultural development of their children in a nurturing, egalitarian atmosphere. The Audubon curriculum includes immersion in a second language and teaching children responsibility and assisting their younger peers to develop a high self esteem. Having only one soccer ball for an entire school is not ideal but the children appreciate and learn many valuable lessons from this. Imagine the growth potential if they had one of several play or musical instruments. The teachers without question deserve more tools of the trade!!

I have noticed that parents attend games, etc. even when their child is not participating. The teachers are encouraging to the students. After 5th Grade, Audubon isn't all of that. Expectations get low and the learning gets worst. I only consider you send your child to ACS for 4th grade. I have a 7th grade daughter and she is not being taught what will be on the ILEAP. High Schools will determine entrance on the 7th grade ILEAP scores. This school has alot of repairing to do on it's middle school program. I an not satisfied! My daughter will be going St. Mary's Dominican next year! I am not worried too much about the ILEAP, because my daughter works and learns at an advanced level. (She is in resource for advanced language and reading and the school says they have no time to give her advanced math :-() on a scale 1-10, i'll give ACS a 3.

Audubon is a wonderful school. I have a 5th and 2nd grader at Audubon. I am always amazed at how much they are growing academically, as well as socially. I highly recommend Audubon to parents seeking an elementary and/or middle school for their children. This is an awesome school! I have had children in the school for four years; this is our fifth. My children attend the French Immersion section of the school and they are learning to read, write and think in French. The school scored first in the parish on the LEAP test in reading and close to the top in the parish in Math. The principal is wonderful and knows each family personally. She is extremely approachable and has a wonderful, positive attitude that she shares with the students daily. The faculty is very stable and the afterschool program, Arts Reach, offers the opportunity for busy working parents to give their children the extracurriculars they might not otherwise be able to manage. Examples are dance, art, karate, chess and sports. I highly recommend this school!

Audubon is such a great school. Yet it is not the kind of school that provides support for students who are not on grade level. There are many claims of helps that will be provided and I have yet to see any of them executed. I am torn between allowing my child to repeat or finding another school. As known, there are not many high quality schools in New Orleans now. I am so sad that it had to be my child that had trouble this year. I love the school but I don't feel my child has gotten all that was needed in order to make sure that he did not get to this point.

My child is in third grade at Audubon and I wanted to write to address an earlier parent comment (June 2005) about kids with special needs. Since Katrina, I have found Audubon to be 100% responsive to my child's special needs--which was not the case necessarily before. I am very impressed by the progress the school has made in this area as well as in many others since becoming a charter school. This is a diverse, warm, academically excellent, thriving school which fills a very tall order in New Orleans, particularly these days.

Audubon Charter should not be judged by its previous incarnation as Audubon Montessori/L'Ecole Franco-Americaine. The new principal has brought a renewed sense of purpose to students, teachers, and parents. Her pride and enthuiasm for the entire school community has brought wonderful changes to the school. Teachers seem happier and more excited about what they do, and this is communicated to kids and parents. With the principal's leadership, the teachers' renewed committment and enthusiasm, and the superb parent, PTO, and charter board support, great things lie ahead for this teriffic little school. It's been exciting to see the changes in the past few months since reopening after Katrina.

Our K-3 experience was great, but after a learning disability was discovered, trouble began. I contacted the principle MANY times but she never personally responded or met with me. The teachers would decide which type of help, if any, would be given to the child. If your child has a learning disability, expect no help from the principal or the teachers in the 4th grade. You must allow your child to fall behind TWo grades before they can help.

The arts reach program has been a very successful and exciting one, with artists and instructors from all over city participating. I love Audubon Montessori.
