2010, will be the second year that my son has attended Baby Ben. His first grade teacher was Ms. Hakes!!! I loved her dearly. Very sweet, kind, understanding teacher. Very direct and on point. With her help, my son made straight A's at the end of the school year!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!

This school keeps the parents very informed. Many opportunities for the parents to get involved with and without their child. Motivates all students to do their best. I witness daily how the kids appreciate their previous teachers. Teachers communicate with parents about their child(ren). Teachers and staff including the principal knows the students. Since my preschoolers have been in attendance this year, I have not heard of any negative behavioral disruptions. A good education is taken serious at this school and there are many internal and external resources to keep the kids voluntarily learning.

This is my first year at Ben Franklin so I am still accessing the institution. I can say that I appreciate the Principal, Charlotte Matthews; she seems to be a hands on leader, ever present and involved in what's going on. There seems to be no disrupting discipline issues and the children are cooperating and learning. I will comment again at a later date.

I feel blessed to have my daughter attend Baby Ben. She's been there since PreK and is now a First Grader. The learning process starts early, like she's been reading since PreK. Now she's on, and I feel above level as far as reading and mathematics. I absolutely love this school. The environment is family oriented, everyone knows each other. I praise and recommend the school to anyone who'll listen. Take it from a parent who's involved in every aspect, this school is great, and your child will definitely learn and be safe, because these are their priorities, and mine as well!!!

Thank you for trusting your precious children to us. To those of you who are considering us for your child, please come visit, and see how we fit your student's educational needs.

My son started attending Ben Franklin Gifted Pre-K4 class since the beginning of this year, and Mrs. Faciane, the special ed teacher for the gifted PK4 and 3, has been more than a blessing to my son's progress in all sorts of areas. He is reading much more, more inquisitive in learning new subjects, and showing more autonomy in creativity. I have twin girls who will be PK3 age by next school year, and I definitely want to place them in Mrs. Faciane's class at Ben Franklin.

This school may have been great before Katrina but my daughter attends now and its the worst school ever! It's unorganized and ridiculous. My daughter's teacher told me that the kid's test involved material that they didn't learn. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I do not recommend this school to anyone and my daughter will not be returning to this school who is now hiding behind its name!

Ben Franklin Elementary might just be the best kept secret in the New Orleans public school (and I include public charters, here) system. Principal Matthews is a strong, talented leader who has built a solid team of supporters among faculty and parents. My one concern with Ben Franklin Elementary is that it remains under the direct supervision of the Orleans Parish School Board. Let's keep our fingers crossed that OPSB continues to give this school the funding and autonomy it needs to remain strong.

I am a parent of one student at BFE and I am very elated to say that changing my daughter from a previous school to BFE has been more than rewarding. Her 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Dezara was wonderful & patient with the students in her class. My daughter needed to be challenged and the ending results were exceptional. She has attended BFE for the past three years and will continue this upcoming school year. Their principal, Ms. Matthews, has been more than wonderful also. I would encourage other parents to see what BFE has to offer.

i agree with another parent the school board did a wonderful job by placing mrs. charlotte matthew at ben franklin elementary.i am a grandparent of 2 returning students and is trying very hard to enroll another grandchild who again is a returning student .this student was also under mrs.matthew supervision at avery alexander elementary school and her method of being a good principal stayed the same. i really appiciate how being a good principal encourage her teathers to do the same . it really is a very school . submitted ...wanda joseph a grandparent.
The school board couldn't have placed a better principal than Mrs. Charlotte Matthew at Ben Franklin Elem. I am the parent of 2 returning students at BFE. My 1st Grader is a little hyperactive, but his teacher seen potential and motivated him to excell instead of discipline him to fail. My 2nd Grader loves his teacher, he is now reading Chapter Books. Thanks to Mrs. J. Charenfont 2nd Grade teacher and Mrs. Gaines 1st Grade teacher for loving your students. My boys truly appriciate the certificates they received last year. Thanks to Mrs. Ryes, Mrs. D. and the other after school staff. With everybody working together, my boys passed with 4.0 and 3.8 GPA.

This school is excellent for students who love math work and science experience. This is one of the mostly populated African American schools that are high tech.

I must say with all the controversy surrounding the New Orleans Public School System, I was very weary about enrolling my daughter in a NOPS. I have been blessed to have my daughter placed in classes headed by extraordinary teachers-Mrs. Lewis (K) and Ms. Reyes (1st). I am anticipating the new school year with much prayer. The marvelous thing about Franklin Elementary is that the staff is outstanding and that make a difference and puts me at ease regarding my daughter's learning environment. I would urge other parents to post comments and recommend Franklin Elementary to their friends and family. It really is a great school.

I am the parent at Ben Franklin. I am very pleased with her progress at this school. I had a brief problem in one class there. But once she was moved to Mrs. Lewis' class she excelled. Hats off to the great teachers at Benjamin Franklin. The Pre-K staff is also great.

Before the Hurricane we thought we experienced the best school the best atmosphere and the best teacher for our son. That was until we experienced Benjamin Franklin and a wonderful teacher named Ms. Lewis. This school has taken my thought of quality education and maximized my thinking. I love the way he is taught and he comes home with a positive outlook for the entire day. Ben Franklin has encorporated school setting and home learning and made it well worth the 15 mile trip to the school. Thanks Ms.Lewis for teacing my son to read in less than 20 days! D.S.
