This school has such a caring and hard working administration that is working non-stop to make this school in Uptown, a part of the Recovery School District, a number one school! It has a beautiful recess area, and even has garden boxes and basketball courts, but it just needs a little love to build drip systems out there. And of course, if this school could get support it could be an even better local school for all of the Uptown residents. We could improve the school by getting some additional resources for interactive notebooks, construction paper, manipulatives to make class more fun, as well as to improve the recess area and reinstate the garden!
My daughter attends BB and I am very happy with her progress. The school is a safe environment (no small feat for New Orleans schools) and she is enjoying learning. The love of learning is so important to the success of a student, and I'm very pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere at Banneker. I was expecting it to be a weak school, based on its inclusion in the Recovery School District, but everyone from her teacher to the principal have been excellent.
