DO NOT put your kids in AKILI Academy. Make this your NO Choice !!! The communication is poor concerning your child. The adminstition is not aware of the kids academic status. The teachers are not concerned and helping the kids succeed in the areas of opportunity. Poor organization!! If you are the parent that will reinforce(teach) the information to your child at home Akili is your school. They are ALWAYS on a break but get out later than most schools. If you read the post in prior years, these are the same concerns.
Teachers do not communicate with parents about child's progress. The teachers act as if they are scared of the parents. I don't think they are really challenging the kids enough because every year it's new teachers from TFA. Very few of these teachers have degrees in education. Teaching is a specialized profession and one must know how to connect and reach students. Leadership is very poor. They do not take parents concerns in to consideration. Very poor Customer service. Parents voice same concerns each year and nothing is ever done. Parents have no voice here. Just feel like the staff does not care about the students. They cannot greet them in the morning, Parents are asked to stand with kids until they open the school. They say they have an open door policy, but they don't which raised red flags to me. Teachers are just not experienced enough to manage the students. The more grades they get the worse it becomes. Kids are only graded on one assessment test per semester. This school could be great with the right leadership and teachers with a passion for teaching.
While I tend to agree with the other reviewer that they need textbooks and teacher with more experience, I don't agree with the learning level. I will put one of these kids up against any other from another school and I bet they will out test the other. The school is in the learning phase and our kids as well as the teachers and staff are learning with them. Yes, they are learning together without compromising the learning of the scholars. They will be improving as the years go on.
i dont know if im expecting too much from a new school.but i feel that they should be learning mre than just math and reading .others 7 year old kids are doing vocabulary multiplication language arts and other things. im not impressd with this school they need older teachers with experience and textbooks.
