Overall this school appears to have poor leadership. From incidents that have occurred it seems that teachers have given up because they're not supported or protected. Every time I visit the school or have issues there seems to be private hallway meetings amongst teachers and staff in hallways and corridors. This school seems to have a sociable culture in the hallways that have become accepted. Less and less focus is on students' education and it seems to be about more about school spirit and socializing. I'm very diss appointed in the overall test scores and I feel that of teachers were held accountable for their actions of actually teaching then kids would behave a lot better and kids would learn a whole lot more!!!
annie C Williams overall really is a good school. The since of community amongst staff and students is good . The students overall are well behaved and want to do well in academics and they really look out for one another. The teachers are very creative with lessons and create lessons to accommodate various learning styles students come with. Students have access to tons of technology, far more than I've seen at most schools (Some classrooms have up to 7 computers). Students who are identified as gifted receive special services to expand their knowledge and provide them with more rigor. Additionally, I must say, this school really is a second home for most students. The faculty and staff do everything from wash uniforms of students who are in need, to giving parents personal cell phone numbers for parents to call or text with questions or concerns anytime. The moral is very high at this school. Sure it has challenges but what school doesn't? When its all said and done , Fannie C Williams truly is a positive place to learn and grow!
This school lacks greatly in the education department! Students are NOT held accountable for their own actions and educational career. Behaviors that are punishable by district and Louisiana DOE guidelines are ignore or diminished. Administration can be very callous and unsupportive of staff that actively seek out assistance to improve their instruction. The students are the ones in charge and not the adults! The administration's thought that each student in grades 6-8 should have 32 grades per subject/quarter is unrealistic. More grades input by the teacher does not guarantee that the student will have a better average - if a student chooses not to do 9-10 assignments, why would you believe that they will do 32. The staff turnover there is ridiculous! Because staff members choose to devote time to family and self and not attend baby showers, holiday social/parties, parades, and games on person their time, you are ostracized, talked about, and eventually have no employment for the following year. (Which is some instances is better than being employed there, with backstabbing colleagues and administrators with less than 10 years of classroom teaching between both of them.)
