MS. FRICK, Please come back! The staff needs your professionalism and your leadership. Ohh, how the school has changed, not for the betterment of the school either. The acting Assistant Principal, Ms. Skidmore, is no replica of you, NOT EVEN A PINCH. The school's rating is being reflected upon the head of the school and ITS NOT GOOD! THE ENTIRE SCHOOL NEEDS YOU!! PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!
Ms. Frick was the reason why I wanted my child to attend McMain. She was firm, she disciplined, and most of all she cared about ALL her students. It's obvious she didn't have a say in appointing her staff. I've never witnessed women, who are suppose to be professional, act so ignorant in my life! They have no telephone ethnics, they can't hold a sensible conversation with parents, and most importantly they don't listen! Ms. Skidmore runs McMain like she has no pride in the school at all! Students are always in the hall, they curse like sailors in the presence of parents and teachers, and she condones the actions of her staff when they're blatantly wrong! Ms. Horn is the most ignorant secretary in the entire school system and Ms. Henderson needs to actually teach her students and not bring her kid to school as if it were a nursery! The school wreaks of mold and mildew and Ms. Frick can't return until the conditions of the school improves. No, McMain hasn't always been like this, but it's reputation has been tarnished since Ms. Frick's departure. Too bad my child won't be there when she returns. Ms. Frick, you're deeply missed. GET WELL SOON!!!
Teachers are very rude & have attitude porblems. I AM A STUDENT at McMain & I have experinced first hand of their attitude & the princpal the same mind-set has the teachers. Students aren't friendly at all, do not know how to treat eachother, work is harder;; but going to get extra help after school, is not an option since I went before & I didn't get the help I needed. Teacher sat on computer & on phone. She answered my questions vaugley & without much detail to what I need to know.
I have to agree with the post on August 11, 2011. I could care less about Little Wayne, but the poster on October 24, 2011 is speaking of an entirely different McMain -- pre-Katrina. My son attends, and if I could pull him out, but we just don't have that many other options. Not only are the teachers loud (ok, not ALL of them) but I have seen the principal in action, literally going off on a parent. It was very unprofessional. The caliber of students is not the same as it was, the metal detector at the front door is alarming, to say the least, and my husband, who is a graduate of McMain is shocked to see how much the school has changed. So, the "facts" for Oct. 24 and Aug. 11 can be completely different, but both correct.
BEFORE YOU TRY TO TARNISH MY ALMA MATERS CHARACTER, PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT...THIS IS DIRECTED TO THE PARENT WHO SUBMITTED ON AUGUST 11, 2011. LIL WAYNE DID NOT GRADUATE FROM MCMAIN BUT HE DID GO THERE UP UNTIL 8TH GRADE. WHILE ATTENDING, HE WAS HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE AND MAINTAINED THAT EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE THAT HAS ALWAYS SET MCMAIN APART. HE WAS A STRAIGHT "A" STUDENT WHILE THERE, BY THE WAY...AND AS HE HAS SHOWN THE WORLD, VERY TALENTED..I AM A VERY PROUD MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF 2000 AND I WENT ON TO GRADUATE FROM AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL. I HAVE A VERY SUCCESSFUL CAREER. MY CLASSMATES ARE THE DOCTORS WHO YOU SEE WHEN YOU ARE SICK, THE LAWYERS YOU GO TO FOR LEGAL ISSUES, THE SCIENTIST WHO DEVELOP THE MEDICINE YOU ARE PRESCRIBED, AND THE NURSES WHO ARE CARING TO YOU. YOU JUST DID YOUR DAUGHTER A GREAT DISJUSTICE. I HAVE LIVED ALL OVER THE WORLD, ALL BEFORE 30. MCMAIN ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE A SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE.
This is where Lil Wayne graduated from... Think about that. terrible teachers, students are rowdy and have absolutely no manners. I took my daughter out of this school after 2 months.
The school is very nice all of the students are focused and they are all ready to succeed and go on with there lives they want to make something of there lives the teachers are awesome and the really get into the lesson i love this school and im sure the other kids do as well
Now i look at these reviews and they make mcmain seem like it's all that. It's really not. I feel like the teachers here are very qualified but some just don't have any quality in their teaching. Nowadays most students don't take the initiative and do the work own their own and take that extra mile, the teacher makes it worst because of lack in quality of teaching. And also the 'office people' are not that welcoming. I'm not going to go into detail but, they're are a bunch of hypocrites. I believe, them, being the heart of leadership at this school they should set the example for everyone. I often see the visitors (parents mostly) and they think the school is so dandy but they just don't know.
A fine school meeting its students needs and showing students from a variety of backgrounds that they can achieve.
I am a current senior at McMain Secondary and I love it. The leadership that is represented to us through our teachers and administrators remains un-parrelled!!! Our school provides both a rigorous curriculum and a safe learning environment. Each day I wear my uniform proudly and I take pride in saying that I am a McMain Mustang!
mcmain is an excellent school with top of the line education i am a current student of mcmain and i have improved my skills of learning tremendously and if you want your student to have the best education then send him/her to Eleanor Lauria mcmain. you wont regret it!!!!!
I graduated from McMain in the class of 2008. I attended McMain for 7-12 grades. At first I considered McMain one of the top learning facilities in all of New Orleans. How ever I must digress as this changed over the years as I ascended in grade into high school. The school was deteriotating rapidly both the building and the people within. THe students became rowdy and and unruly which caused the teachers to become nonchalant about whether or not any of the students passed or failed. Personally I did not blame them. I did my share and gained the approval and trust of many members of the faculty members on a positive noe. The faculty and some of it's members played a part in this decline but the bulk of the blame rests with the school board i believe.
I give my school five stars because it is a school where students are welcomed with open arms and leave the school with more wrinkles on their brains, meaning that your child will leave mcmain with more knowledge, than when they came in the school.
As I was reading the reviews for this high school, I was very suprised by how misleading they were. Some of these reviews make this school sound like the best of the best, with a great staff, and the dream curriculum. I disagree completely. I graduated from McMain in the class of 2008. I felt most of the time as if I was not being challenged, with the exception of a few teachers. A lot of teachers and especially other staff members (the principal, people in the office, etc.) were extremely unprofessional and condescending. I have rarely ever felt welcome or safe in that school. I felt ill prepared for college compared to other students who attended other schools. I feel that McMain doesn't encourage students to pursue their education with vigor. The faculty and staff at McMain didnt care at all about the well being of the students.
I love this school. The teachers work with me and they are very patient.I must say we have awesome counselors as well. They listen to you and help you with all of your problems.I am proud to be a part of McM!
When I was in high school back in the 70's, McMain was one of the top schools. I'm having mixed feelings about allowing my daughter to attend the school. My daughter went to an out of state Intermediate and Sr. High School and both schools were very organized, the staff was very courteous and kept you well informed about what was going on. My daughter was also accepted into another school, but because she wanted to go to McMain, we declined the other school. Since school has started, I must say that I am very disappointed in what I've seen so far. We have experienced attitudes, inexperience, unprofessionalism, and a lack of concern from some of the staff. Hopefully, there will be some miracle of change. If not, my daughter will not be graduating from here. It's a shame because she really wanted to go there.
i love this school its great and it makes you feel like you fit in very well its a very fun school teachers are cool and everything
I love it!!!! The curriculum is career oriented, the staff is curtious, and my daughter loves it. I'm proud to say my daughter attends this high school and will be proud to say she graduated from it. Thank god there's a high school in New Orleans that i can say this about with all the tension going on here.
I love McMain this will be my 4th year at mcmain. My only problem is the principal's lack of language skills. I feel that she dosen't represent the school in a professional way. The teachers are great and so is some of the security. I can't wait for school to start!
