We have really enjoyed OC. My children love going to school each day. They both tested to go to a local magnet school and passed. We decided to keep them at OC. My 1st grader did not want to leave and we wanted our pre-school child to have the same wonderful kindergarten experience that the older child had. We have been very pleased with all staff members. They are very professional and kind. We are also pleased with the academic aspect of this school. I am so glad we have such a wonderful school in our area.
Sending my child to OC was the worst decision we ever made. After two months, we took her out and sent her to another school. I thought we were doing the best for our child and it ended up being a horrible experience. They are very unprofessional and I am so glad we got out when we did.
We love this school, could not ask for better teachers and a better principal. My grandson is going into 2nd grade and he is doing so good there and loves it. Cannot believe the school board is thinking of closing this wonderful school board.
I am an education major who frequently observes at Oil City. I have had many experiences with various schools in Caddo and Bossier Parish, and Oil City by far exceeds my expectations. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. The students are respectful and courteous. Mr. Irvin is, in my opinion, one of the best principals I have ever seen. The teachers are incredible and are very interested in the children receiving a quality education. The science magnet and extended year provide the students with many opportunities that other schools do not provide. The teachers are not rushed to get through the curriculum and are not pressured to 'teach the test'. It is evident by the test scores that you do not have to teach the test to improve a school. The teachers instruct the students in a way that the information is internalized, not memorized.
My grandson is in first grade and we love the school and he does to.
I have one son who has been attending OCEMS for 2 years. I love the falculty and staff there they made my son's transition from daycare to regular school such a joy. I also am amazed at the amount of parental involvement incouraged by the school. I feel as thought the school has brought me and my son even closer together with all of their family friendly activities.
Oil City School is an innovative school providing hands on experiences for all children.Field trips provide experiences outside this small community.
I Love Oil City School they teach my boy's so much.
My daughters have been in the ECE program. It as been wonderful! I was very anxious about leaving them, the teachers and staff calmed my fears and have provided a great start for my children. I am very proud to be a TIGER!
I have three children (12,9,8) who have attended this school from k-6th grade. This is a math/environmental/science magnet school. They focus so well on whats good for the earth and science that any child there can second-handly give you any information to that. They will even teach you some new things. I like most is the fact that they treat your child like a person ,not like numbers, and attend to every child with the attention he/she needs. They do not like to leave any child behind. I am also reminded of the show 'CHEERS' when I walk in the door, because eveyone pretty much know your name and what child belongs to you! They can even tell you what they have been up too! The teachers will call and update you on any problems so that you both can solve them together. Their test scores are all ways above average.
