A fantastic elementary in the Pineville/Alexandria area. My KDG and 2nd grader attended JI Barron for one year, 2009-10, due to a brief transfer to LA. Coming from Iowa I was concerned about LA schools, but we chose Barron based on a personal visit (very professional and friendly) and test scores. Both my boys loved their teachers; I found all the staff to be dedicated, focused on the children, and committed to building strong foundations in the classroom (reading and math especially). The gifted program for my 2nd grader was OUTSTANDING. It's not who you know at JI Barron, it's who you are, and how involved in your child's schooling you want to be. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

JI Barron is all about who you know, so if you are friends with the staff, and hang out with them on the weekend your good. If not, be concerned about how your child is being treated.

My child has had great teachers at JI Barron. Overall, it has been a very positive experience. My only issue is that they have a PTO but rarely get the parents involved. It seems there are a few who do everything, and it seems that is the way they want it. I would like to see more assertiveness from the principal in spreading the involvement around to more than just a few. There are some talented and able parents who given the chance could offer more.

I am the parent of a current and former student at J.I. Barron. I know there are other good schools in Rapides Parish, but I feel that J.I. Barron provides the best atmoshpere for learning and growing while also providing a safe and secure environment. I would recommend J.I. Barron to anyone in the area.

AWESOME school! We have been very pleased with everything about J.I.Barron! My children are in kindergarten and third grade. The teachers are great and provide so many opportunities for the children through projects, activities and great, well planned lessons! Can't say enough about how happy we are!

Great school. My boys have been there for 3 years now, and we couldn't ask for anything more. The teachers are caring and always available. The climate is very positive (it has to be; I have 2 boys that wake up each morning excited about going to school). The quality of education that they are receiving is top notch. We actually moved to this area because of the things we had heard about Barron, and we have not been disappointed. We wouldn't dream of sending our boys anywhere else.

After having my oldest child in Buckeye last year, the move to Barron made me a little nervous. Buckeye set the standard fairly high. Although I am satisfied with the overall performance of the school, I have been disappointed with the parental involvement as well as the organization of the school. The PTA does not meet regularly, and parent volunteers are scarce. I would like to see more leadership from the principal and more team work from the individual classes. I do feel there is a desire to help these children be thier best, and I suppose that is what is most important.
