Fairfield is an awesome school. My granddaughter is in the second grade and has been there since Kindergarten. She has not had one teacher that has not been a wonderful, caring.and fantastic teacher. From the cross guard to the principal there is not enough space here to tell how much they care about the children of Fairfield.. Mrs. Blue and Mrs. Graham know all the children by name and take a special interest in each child. Everyone works together for the welfare of the children at Fairfield. We are so blessed to have the best guality of teachers at our school combined with the leadership of our principal and coordinator and parental involvement. How can we not not succeed with such a driving force as we have at Fairfield Elementary Magnet.

My child went to this school 3 years; not happy with school or PTA. I volunteered to be on PTA but was not contacted for what I could contribute. The school's extracurricular activities are not advertised/visible- only cheerleading for girls, football for boys -not of interest to all people. When inquired other activities no avail. This is not good to newcomers in locating venues, shared experiences and camaraderie. In the yearbook and on the school walls, you will see pics of PTA childrens success in all different fields. The yearbook is full of pics of PTA children, large visible pics of them. Each year we have to look hard to find a few small pics included of our child. Parents may "buy" a highly priced "ad" to ensure a picture. Printing t-shirts, yearbook and student directory all contribute to PTA children fame or parent PTA companies. No real parent involvement encouraged. PTA events always include "spring fling/sweetheart dance" and swimming parties which do not consider other culture/religion values. Conclusion: The PTA's work is self-fulfilling, not community-serving. No support/encouragement of newcomer or other-culture. School does nothing to correct this.

Outstanding school. Fairfield has exceeded my expectations as a parent. I wish Fairfield was a K-12 school, so my children would never have to leave.

Fairfield Elem Magnet is a wonderful school for many reasons. The faculty, students and parents become "family".You will never walk in the school and not know someone in the hallway by first name basis. Everyone at FEM is an important person treated with respect from the cross guard to the principal. We are all there for the same reason: to get our children a great education in a great school with great people. Its hard to find all in one place. But you will @ FEM. The PTA is OUTSTANDING! Everyone works together as a team to accomplish tasks & goals. Parents and teachers really go the extra mile to help make FEM a WONDERFFUL place to be!!!

This is the most awesome school in Caddo Parish!!!!! It's the best kept secret in Shreveport. It will break my heart when my boy goes to Middle School. I only wish there was a Middle School in Shreveport with all the qualities of Fairfield.

The staff and teachers are friendly and helpful. The Principal is very visible and accessible - friendly and helpful, too. Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed. School operations are very organized. My child loves the school. She has found the teachers/staff to be the same. Art, french, and music are incorporated into the standard subjects. Other programs used include Accelerated Reading and Math. Great school.

This is a wonderful school! You could not ask for a better more caring principal and teachers. The quality of education is exceptional and the extracurricular activities are outstanding. The staff is constantly helping students to discover their special talents and develop them. The PTA is wonderful and all parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child's education. I cannot say enough about how exceptional this school is. Your child would be very lucky to attend this school.

We have a fourth grade student and a first grader at Fairfield. The dedication and committment to our children's education and the one on one attention each member of the faculty and staff give to all of the children is unsurpassed. The PTA is also very strong and plays a vital role in keeping the parents involved and informed. My children play sports through local leauges which include many of their classmates. Fairfield does have a strings program, running club, etc. so there are plenty of options for your child to be involved in ex.curr. activities. The overall achievement for this 'new' magnet continues to excel every year as reflected by national test scores. Definitly a well rounded school of excellence. Sarah Drysdale

My child has been challenged in K-garden with accelerated reading... next year accelerated math. There is a good amount of homework which is important to keep learning an ongoing process at both home and at school. I especially like that my child is exposed to children of different economic and cultural backgrounds--kind of like how the real world is!!! The teachers and administrators are selfless with their talents and time. We look forward to our second child starting there next year.

This is our first year at Fairfield and I must admit I was hesitant to place my child there since it is a relatively new magnet school. However, I have been thrilled with the school and I am so glad we moved him there! The staff is wonderful and the smaller size school makes it seem like we've been there forever!

We were pleased with Fairfield until the last two years. We do not feel like our child is being challenged enough academically. Also, there are no sports at Fairfield which is a big drawback if your child is active in sports, it will have to be outside of the school.

Fairfield Magnet is an excellent school. My child is a 4th grader and has thrived there. The programs, teachers and principal are outstanding. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

I would give Fairfield an excellent rating in education. The teachers are very dedicated and I especially have great respect for Mrs. Woods, the 4th grade teacher and Mrs. Douglas who loves all her students equally. I am proud to be associated with such dedicated teachers.

We placed our first child in Kindergarten at Fairfield Magnet last year. At the time it was a very new Magnet school and we did feel like we were taking a risk, but we were impressed with the curriculum and the faculty and decided to try it. I can honestly say the Fairfield Magnet is such a blessing to our family. My son has thrived there with loving, caring, thoughtful, brilliant teachers! We also have a wonderful counselor and principal! Fairfield is a challenging school that focuses on the entire well being of your child, not just the 'brightness factor'. Each child is an individual there, and the staff works with each childs' strengths and weaknesses in such a wonderful way. I love it too because it is a small school and the staff (even the enrichment teachers) will know you by name before the end of your 1st 9 weeks there! I have watched so many children thrive at Fairfield. Their self-esteem, their individual gifts and talents, and their educational foundation grow stronger each day. I would not send my child anywhere else! Come see for yourself! Once you have experienced it, you would not choose any other Magnet school!

My daughter has just started Kindergarten at Fairfield Magnet and we couldn't be more thrilled. It has been a wonderful experience. The teacher is so organized and innovative. The school faculty and staff have been wonderful. Fairfield has been great for our daughter and we could not be more impressed.

Fairfield was just what I was looking for for my daughters. It is a new magnet school, so I know we share the same academic goals. It is also a small school. My children are important there. They are loved, as well as, taught a quality education. One of my daughters excels in reading and math. The faculty at this school did what was necessary to give her the challenges she needed. I am very grateful to them for that. Not only did her classroom teacher look for challenges for her, but so did the librarian and counselor, and others. Everyone from the custodial staff to the principal have been friendly and helpful. Fairfield definitely has something special!!

As a new baby in the Magnet system there is room for improvement and growth. However, there is a quality at Fairfield that is hard to find; love. Add talentd, qualified teachers and a great ciriculum and you hve the ingredients for success. I wouldn't send my child anywhere else!

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.

In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program for the 21st Century (LEAP 21) to assess students in grades 4 and 8 in math, English language arts, science and social studies.
