My child went to this school 3 years; not happy with school or PTA. I volunteered to be on PTA but was not contacted for what I could contribute. The school's extracurricular activities are not advertised/visible- only cheerleading for girls, football for boys -not of interest to all people. When inquired other activities no avail. This is not good to newcomers in locating venues, shared experiences and camaraderie. In the yearbook and on the school walls, you will see pics of PTA childrens success in all different fields. The yearbook is full of pics of PTA children, large visible pics of them. Each year we have to look hard to find a few small pics included of our child. Parents may "buy" a highly priced "ad" to ensure a picture. Printing t-shirts, yearbook and student directory all contribute to PTA children fame or parent PTA companies. No real parent involvement encouraged. PTA events always include "spring fling/sweetheart dance" and swimming parties which do not consider other culture/religion values. Conclusion: The PTA's work is self-fulfilling, not community-serving. No support/encouragement of newcomer or other-culture. School does nothing to correct this.
Outstanding school. Fairfield has exceeded my expectations as a parent. I wish Fairfield was a K-12 school, so my children would never have to leave.
Fairfield Elem Magnet is a wonderful school for many reasons. The faculty, students and parents become "family".You will never walk in the school and not know someone in the hallway by first name basis. Everyone at FEM is an important person treated with respect from the cross guard to the principal. We are all there for the same reason: to get our children a great education in a great school with great people. Its hard to find all in one place. But you will @ FEM. The PTA is OUTSTANDING! Everyone works together as a team to accomplish tasks & goals. Parents and teachers really go the extra mile to help make FEM a WONDERFFUL place to be!!!
This is the most awesome school in Caddo Parish!!!!! It's the best kept secret in Shreveport. It will break my heart when my boy goes to Middle School. I only wish there was a Middle School in Shreveport with all the qualities of Fairfield.
The staff and teachers are friendly and helpful. The Principal is very visible and accessible - friendly and helpful, too. Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed. School operations are very organized. My child loves the school. She has found the teachers/staff to be the same. Art, french, and music are incorporated into the standard subjects. Other programs used include Accelerated Reading and Math. Great school.
This is a wonderful school! You could not ask for a better more caring principal and teachers. The quality of education is exceptional and the extracurricular activities are outstanding. The staff is constantly helping students to discover their special talents and develop them. The PTA is wonderful and all parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child's education. I cannot say enough about how exceptional this school is. Your child would be very lucky to attend this school.
We have a fourth grade student and a first grader at Fairfield. The dedication and committment to our children's education and the one on one attention each member of the faculty and staff give to all of the children is unsurpassed. The PTA is also very strong and plays a vital role in keeping the parents involved and informed. My children play sports through local leauges which include many of their classmates. Fairfield does have a strings program, running club, etc. so there are plenty of options for your child to be involved in ex.curr. activities. The overall achievement for this 'new' magnet continues to excel every year as reflected by national test scores. Definitly a well rounded school of excellence. Sarah Drysdale
My child has been challenged in K-garden with accelerated reading... next year accelerated math. There is a good amount of homework which is important to keep learning an ongoing process at both home and at school. I especially like that my child is exposed to children of different economic and cultural backgrounds--kind of like how the real world is!!! The teachers and administrators are selfless with their talents and time. We look forward to our second child starting there next year.
This is our first year at Fairfield and I must admit I was hesitant to place my child there since it is a relatively new magnet school. However, I have been thrilled with the school and I am so glad we moved him there! The staff is wonderful and the smaller size school makes it seem like we've been there forever!
We were pleased with Fairfield until the last two years. We do not feel like our child is being challenged enough academically. Also, there are no sports at Fairfield which is a big drawback if your child is active in sports, it will have to be outside of the school.
