Salmen High School

Great Kids and Teachers. Administration (basically the principal and one of the assistant principals) is ruining the school. Teacher are leaving in droves because of their treatment and the school board (even though addressed about it many times) fails to fix the situation.

Great school . Overall Salmen High is very good and cares for the students. Most of the teachers care, are down to earth, and will HELP you. There is always tutoring in the morning, afternoon, and during study hall. The campus is beautiful. New and just great looking. Also sports here excel (except soccer) . Many different kinds of people and many from different backgrounds. Overall, most of the kids mind their business and there are no problems. I am very satisfied with my years here

Salmen used to be a great school but it spiraled downhill when they started accepting the failures and post- Jump Start kids and let them slide on by through high school while other students actually worked for their diploma, therfore, there is a giant racial inbalance and standards are extremely low. Salmen is literally known as the "last resort" high school in St.Tammany Parish and the terrible principle isn't doing much about it. Kind of saddens me. It used to be such a classy great high school. Now it is the ghetto of St Tammany Parish Public High Schools and its not getting any better. Just goes to show that they can spend a million dollars on place like that and make it look all polished up but its inhabitants (including staff) are below average. Would not reccomend going to this high school. Trust me. I am a student ther. I regret it almost everyday and i wish i wouldnt have ever enrolled at Salmen High School.

If you are looking for a school that actually CARES about the students this is the place. Salmen most closely resembles the 'real world' more than any other school in St. Tammany Parish. Salmen's student body is made up a melting pot of cultures that most closely represents our world. Having said that, the teachers at Salmen go out of their way to attend to the needs of ALL students. As a matter of fact, a lot of the teachers are former students of Salmen. Salmen has a family environment and despite the rumors, Salmen's students have less disciplinary problems and MORE respect than any other so-called 'advanced' school in the parish. The curriculum is the same as every other school and the students get out what they put into it.

I love Salmen because its a very good public school and it is in the process of having to be rebuilt from the hurricane and it will be a better institute for the people of Slidell.

As a former student of this school, who was transferred out due to parent's jobs, I have had to great opportunity to compare this high school to two others from an insider's point of view. This was a wonderful school for building character and learning how to respect people from all walks of life. No this school was not academically strong, but I think that is due to the lack of parents participation in reminding the students of the importance of education. Coming now from a topped ranked high school, it is the parents (and the tax payers money) that really makes a great school. In my opinion Salmen does a great job with what they have been giving. It is the only high school that where almost every student fits in, within the first two weeks.

Great school, great administration, --the entire school is like one big family. I graduated from salmen and currently have 1 child in the ninth grade academy there. My oldest daughter graduated last year and is now attending lsu (and has a 4.0) Majoring in education to go back and teach at the school. Salmen is the best kept secret on the northshore!

We chose to move into Salmen's district just so our children could attend this school. Small class sizes; one-on-one attention; excellent administration & staff. Both of them graduated post-katrina (2006 & 2007). We are so grateful to all who were involved in their educationional experience. They have gone on to receive honors at Southeastern & Northwestern universities. I attribute my kids' respect for racial diversity and love of culture, to Salmen and the family atmosphere that they create. I only see bigger and better accomplishments for this school. We will send our youngest in 2015 as a freshman if this school continues to excell.

I will be graduating from Salmen this year. our school and ourselves have been through so much and its amazing to see how much love and high spirits we all have for our school. salmen is a home away from home and a family away from family and that is how the students, faculty, and parents all feel. yes, our education standards may be a tad lower academically, but salmen teaches more than that.. it teaches closness, family, and friendship like a school should. after the hurricane, we were moved from school to school, loosing classmates, but salmen is coming back with more activities and closness than ever. I would highly recommend salmen for any student.

If your child doesn't play sports don't bother sending them to Salmen. They will get no attention from teachers and a below average education at best.

I am a graduate of Salmen High and I thought that it was extremely helpful in preparing me for the future. I thought the teachers were good and the administration was excellent. Salmen was a huge part of my life then and still is now and always will be. Sports at Salmen are and always will be the best in Slidell and even the state of louisiana. I think the parents really do need to be more involved in their children's education, that is very important. I think Salmen is a very safe place to be, the public image of Salmen is completely wrong and if those people would open their eyes they would realize that. Overall salmen is good school.

Every school has cliques and problems; I don t see Salmen as being that different from other area schools. I do not believe that the teachers of Salmen discriminate against students from disadvantaged backgrounds. In fact, I believe that many of the teachers go out of their way to help disadvantaged and neglected students. However, there are times when students rebel against teachers and create havoc in the classroom, and teachers do not put students creating such havoc above those who are doing what and as they should be. It is a natural reaction for teachers to respond favorably to favorable conditions. This type of response reinforces appropriate behavior.

I graduated from Salmen a couple of years ago. I felt that it was very easy to make good grades there because the standards were lower than other high schools in the area. I had a good G.P.A. which helped get scholarships, but when I went to college I felt that I was not up to par with most of the other students. Also, I felt as though the athletic programs took away from the extracurricualr activities. Well, this was a few years ago, all I can do is hope it has changed for the better now.

I have a child that has been in Salmen for 2 years now. The counselor is fantastic. Mr. Williams is awesome. But on the down side are some of the teachers, or rather they call themselves teachers. If your child is not in the right click, they struggle desperately to make it through. They cannot get the extra help they need. It is really a shame that so many children do suffer because of their low social status. I wonder what God will tell these people when that day comes to meet him and they ask where the line is for the ' I'm better than you' is. Some of the kids are real jerks to those who are not as fortunate as they just so happen to be. I say to those people, you never know about a persons background (abuse, abandonment, ect)so try to be loving and nice to everyone.
