Best in Slidell...I graduated from here in 1983. Mr. Percy, the principal has won numerous awards and has a lengthy career as a teacher and principal. He is excellent and very approachable. There is a nice mix of students so it's not hard to fit in at all. The teachers are caring and willing to go out of their way to help your child suceed!

We just received my son's ACT scores...29 composite. He is just finishing 10th grade. He has been a struggling student through the years with some reading/learning/attention issues. With the help of his teachers, he is overcoming his problems.

My child has been attending Slidell High School for 2 months and I am beginning to develop serious concerns about this school. I truly believe that they are more concerned about how they rate and look to others than what is truly going on at the school. I have witnessed extreme inequality in how the students are treated. I have seen students rewarded for mediocre behavior and those who excelled were ignored -- which indicates to me that the atmosphere is political. Maybe I am missing the point and that is how all high schools are run. I have seen egregious judgment calls by their educators in the name of education. I am going to monitor this place very closely and will home school my child before I subject him/her to unfair decisions. I am not impressed.

i love how greatschools.org does their reviews solely based on test scores. That makes no sense to me. For one thing the tests that the students take is one week out of a 36 week school year. At schools with high test scores most teachers are like drones just teaching out of their special GEE and LEAP testing books. A great teacher has to have a teaching style and a mind of their own, and this is why loved Slidell High School. My teachers didn't care about their test scores because they knew what they were teaching would positively affect their students in the college environment. Go on, I dare you to go and ask Mrs. Joy Bazin about her students test scores. You should get quite an ear full. The teachers at this school have a soul. They teach things that you don't learn at a normal school. Life lessons that will help you in your future. I graduated in 2009 the 100th graduating class of this wonderful school and I wouldn't have had it any other way. sincerely-Chad Livingston

I have been teaching at Slidell High for nearly ten years now. I have been extremely impressed with the teachers at this school. It is not unusual to walk into school an hour before classes begin and see teachers working with students, and after school is the same. My colleagues take teaching seriously. I feel as if the students feel safe to talk with their teachers too. Slidell High is a school steeped in tradition and I am very proud to be a part of this educational family.

I am the parent of a tenth grade student of Slidell HS. So far, the experience for her and my wife and me has been very good. She is involved in some of the many extracurricular activities that the school has to offer. Most of her teachers seem to be caring and dedicated to their duties and responsibilities. Mr. Percy, Dr. Burgoyne and others have done a nice job managing their staff and student body of over 1700 kids. The Freshman Academy program, which focuses on the development and success of ninth grade students, has achieved positive results. Parental involvement is also very obvious as well. Overall, we are very pleased with Slidell HS and plan to send my eighth grade son there next school year.

Worst experience ever!My son was home schooled-returned to public school during jr. high.They took an all-honors kid and made him hate waking up every a.m. to go to school.(Not all)some of the worst teachers ever!.My son has NEVER had any problems at school(behavior or other) till his 2 yrs. there.I went to speak with staff about how I could improve his experience- it was suggested(by 3 diff. people!)'just drop him out'!From then on whenever I'd go to the office I was asked eagerly(often befor even stating why I'd come or what was needed), 'Are you here to drop Bobby out? Are you sighning papers today?'. Each time I said no, they would(very rudely) tell me someone would be with me shortly(apx. 15-25 mins. later on avg.).After the 3rd time I did drop him(from there!)and he is doing GREAT at his new school and they are great!

I graduated from Slidell High a few years ago, and it is an average school. I believe the main fall at SHS is the fact there are too many people on the favorite list-students that run everything i.e. saying the announcements, class president, students who get away with murder. Also some teachers are way tooo lazy, and the school lacks discipline.I have a younger brother and he will not be attending SHS. The school is not academic enough. Nonetheless, I did enjoy my years there somewhat but was happy to leave and move on. I will be graduating in a year from college in English Education and will teach anywhere but SHS.

This is our teens first year at Students, so we have a long road ahead. I agree with one other writer about the office staff. The principal's/main office staff act like they have lead in their pants. Staff needs to pay more attention to the students who are struggling, socially, and help to blend the student body together, AS ONE.

Wonderful school. Teachers like Mrs. Tangius, Mr. Rudy Page, and Mr. Archament make it what it is. The teachers care so much about the students. As a very difficult student there 4 years ago believe me I know, I was more than a few handfuls! They never gave up on me even though they could have. I thank them for it now because I am a junior in college with a 3.75 GPA and I owe it all to Rudy Page, Coach Varnado, and Mary Tangius. When I have children I am sending to the school that cares, encourages, and motivates, Slidell High School Slidell, LA. Go Tigers! AMM

I have had 4 children attend Slidell High. Since Mr. Percy has been at this school a lot of changes have been for the best. He has an open door policy. The students can talk to him about anything. He has helped my child out a lot. The teachers most of them do truly care about the students and go out of there way to help them. The school has a lot of extracurricular activities for students. Learning should be fun for children of all ages, the teachers make it interesting for students. Parent involvement is the highest out of the high school in this area. I feel this school has a great academic program.

I have 4 children and all but one (she's in r. High) have gone to Slidell High. I had to remove two of them because the school was so unsatisfactory. It is a very clean school, I will give them that, and a handful of teachers are amazing! The rest are decent, if that. some kids need extra attention, which i belief most of the teachers could care less. Clean and safe school. That's about it!!

Did not like this school. Thought front office staff was always harried and unhelpful. Sometimes seemed downright rude. Things we did like was the requirement to wear uniforms and the dress code and the small town atmosphere. Also coming from the North, we liked the strictness with manners, making the kids says 'yes, maam' and 'no, sir'. Although out the other cheek they were cussing like crazy! We chaperoned a school dance once and some of the kids might as well be having sex on the dance floor.....chaperones were asked to 'not approach the kids' but just find an administrator if saw inappropriate behavior but by the time you could find an administrator, the kids were lost in the large crowd...it was a joke. Guidance counselor seemed lacking the ability to handle the load.

Slidell High is by far the best public school in St. Tammany Parish. I have gone to this school for 3 years and am going back for my senior year. The teachers at this school are wonderful and try to help in any way possible. The athletic programs are wonderful, although some people there think football is more important than school. The other extracurricular activities are also wonderful and there are a lot you can choose from. If you have the option, send your child to this school! I have learned more here than I did during 9 years of private school.

I graduated from Slidell High six years ago. During my four years there, I learned so much and was thoroughly prepared for college. They offer such a wide variety of classes, and the teachers were amazing. I still keep in touch with some. As far as extra curricular activities, we were offered so many and our principle showed a real love for the arts. It was the best experience. Now, I teach middle and high school, and wish only to be back to my alma mater. M.G.

Slidell High is an amazing school rich in tradition. The faculty is awesome. I hated the uniforms, but they were pretty lenient, so it wasn't that big of a deal. The drumline is the best ever! I miss it terribly, and would much rather be back at Slidell High than here in college. There are plenty of sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activites available to students. The school is expanding, and working on the overall image, and it is doing wonderfully. There is no better high school than Slidell High School. Truth shines a guiding light for the SHS students. The Tigers rule!

Slidell high school is an excellent school however there is one big problem there. Many teachers have their favorites. Slidell puts great emphasis on students achievement. They offer various extracurricular activities and there is some parent involvement.

I have been thoroughly impressed with Slidell High. Mr. Buccaran was a phenomenal principal and had the kids involved with school pride, respect and a class unity I have never seen anywhere else. Mr. Percy has let some things go, but the students still enjoy doing class activies, the teachers and faculty clearly love what they're doing and it shows. I am always happy to chaperone dances, etc. The kids are always well-mannered and respectful. Clearly, things are being done the right way. My children are getting the benefit out of Slidell High that I wish other children could experience around the state.
