Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Little Oak is surprisingly a very large school. I've heard their enrollment is always over 1000, yet I do not feel like my 2 students are lost in a mass. For a middle school, the teacher-parent communication is awesome. I can check my daughters' grades online at any time and we get a weekly communicator from their teachers. I can also access the teachers' web site and download homework if they forget to bring it home. Their band program is huge and unbelievable for a middle school. The secretary, Miss Linda, is so sweet and patient. "The assistant principal loves the students" according to my daughters. They say she is so sweet to them and treats they with respect, but if anyone acts up, "she can be mean." My family has the upmost respect for her, too. The principal is always visible and runs a tight ship. I am so glad my girls are there.

I was always a strong supporter of little oak considering I went there as a child but its not the same school it was 20 years ago. Still a great school but children are so snobby and i notice bullying going on and no interference from teachers etc. Besides that acedemically its a wonderful school, with teachers who really care. But my son started here midway through forth grade after being at Bonnye Ecole from T-1 through the first half of forth. The transition was very hard for him and the homework load is so much more than hes accustomed to. Great school though. Mrs Morris is still the best teacher even since I was in school there. Unfortunately my son didnt get her.

I attended this school some years ago and loved every minute of it. My teachers were always caring and helpful. I know the principal now and she is amazing. Great school!

Great school. We should know, as a military family, we have been to a number of schools in a few states with great schools and this school is good for pushing the kids the rigtht way, with a great deal of homework and expecting a lot from them. That's just how I want it...Life is just the same, work hard and do good work. I appreciate that this school is treating them as bigger kids, is not making excuses for them and is making them work hard for their grades. The teachers and principal will listen to you and will work with you. Parent of a 5th grader.

I am a parent of a fifth grader at Little Oak Middle. This is his second year at this school and I can't say enough about what this school has done and is continuing to do for my child. Before entering Little Oak, he was very quiet and reserved. He is a child that needs to be challenged CONSTANTLY. Although his previous schools were "O.K.", I never expected to see such dedicated teachers and administrators when I walked into Little Oak for the first time! I decided to try and volunteer to stay connected to his educational experiences and give back to the school. The teachers work so hard for the students. They keep them challenged and motivated by letting them work in groups and by doing research on computers. They actually teach each child to his or her own ability...these teachers are very talented! My child actually loves to go to school and he has grown so much socially. You will never see a teacher or one of the administrators sitting behind a desk! When I am volunteering, I notice that the principal always sticks her head in the door to say hello and check on everyone. Although I know she is probably very busy, she always puts her students first! AWESOME school!

My daughter just completed her 1st nine weeks at Little Oak, and I am very impressed with the education she is receiving. I knew it would be a big adjustment from Honey Island, but she is really blossoming as a student and young girl. Her organizational skills have greatly improved, and she is more responsible regarding homework. I feel she is maturing academically and developing positive character traits because more is expected of her as a 4th grade student and citizen. Her teachers have been incredibly supportive and helpful, and the weekly memos are informative, keeping me apprised of the tasks for the week. I really love the student planner! I have volunteered in the classroom, and I find her teachers have a geniune compassion and desire to educate each child so they can be successful learners. The front office staff is truly wonderful at Little Oak. The ladies are so courteous and helpful whatever questions or concerns I have. I know the adminstrators are busy, but when I've passed them in the hall or seen them at the office, they've always taken time to stop and ask how we are doing and to let me know they're their to help. I am so happy that my child is there.

I love this school. My teachers are very helpful and nice. I like it that I have 2 teachers this year. I have more homework to do, but my teachers go over it in class and that really helps.

If you truly want an education for yoru child, look elsewhere. They have teachers that do not feel they need to grade assignments because they have too many students and they also give grade A for work that is not to that standard. My daughter missed 5 words on a 20 word spelling test and still received a 100%. I was told by her teacher that spelling isnt a priority and I need to teach her to spell, however, it is a grade on her report card. When contacting the vice principal, I was told this is okay and my daughter would have stay in this class although she is not being taught. I am so disgusted with this school that we will be paying for private school next year. The teachers and the faculty have no interest in the kids, only in the state tests. Very sad to see how little educators care.

The school is just okay. I think it was a rude awakening coming from Honey Island, where the children are treated as children. At Litlle Oak, so much more is expected of them. The teachers my daughter has don't seem to care like the teachers at Honey Island did. The class size is much larger, but that's no excuse for teachers to come across so disinterested. I expected much more after Honey Island, and we're considering private for next year.

I am the mother of a sixth grader and I also feel that the bullying must stop. I send my child to school to learn not to be tortured. This should not be part of a childs education. Where are the rights of the childrens to be protected? This system is poor and am also taking my child out of this school.

So far I've been really pleased with Little Oak. My daughter is in 4th grade and her teachers have been great. I feel that her homework load is appropriate, although I've heard from parents with students in other classes that it is excessive for 4th grade. I feel like my child has had an opportunity to excel and that her teachers work hard to bring out her strengths and improve on her weaknesses. The school does seem very crowded, but considering the circumstances that are beyond their control, I think they do a pretty good job at supervising and allowing the individuality of each student.

As a grandparent I have been most impressed with the way the students are learning to keep their work neat and orderly. My 4th grade granddaughter's school papers are organized in folders with labels ... she knows where evrything is, and 'cleaned' out her school bag because it was too messy even for her! I like the teaching methods, it seems to make a lasting impression on the students.

This is my son's first year at Little Oak. I contacted the school during the first week because he thrives in an environment of structure. After Hurricane Katrina and a bad experience with a teacher (very unorganized) at his previous school, I wanted to be sure he was placed with a teacher that would allow him to thrive in a structured and productive environment. I was told a 'computer' places children and they refused to help me or my son. Not even the slightest concern as to what type of teach or environment would help him learn and have a productive year. They wouldn't budge and seemed totally uniterested. I'm relieved we are moving out of the area and won't have to deal with this school for 3 years. The bus system also seems unsafe.

Overall a good school. Duty teachers are either oblivious or not doing their job. I'm a parent that believes in homework to reinforce what was covered in class. Books not allowed to be brought home defeat the purpose of instilling study habits. Some great teachers & some should RETIRE for good. No extra curr. activities-chess club, geog society, drama club, phys fit. etc.

Little Oak is a wonderful Blue ribbon school. It provides a wonderful environment for the student that really wants to learn. There are numerous extra-curricular activities for those that wish to participate (individual music lessons, art lessons, jump rope, band, chorus), and a great reading program with numerous incentives. Most of the teachers are great (of course there are always a few exceptions to the rule!) but for the most part, it is the best middle school in the Slidell section of St. Tammany Parish. Great Sp.Ed. programs and support staff. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Parent participation and number of volunteers is very high. The only thing lacking here is a good sports program. Other than regular PE not much is provided.

We transferred our daughter from another school in town. So far we love the Little Oak. The teachers, staff and volunteers have been super nice and very helpful. My daughter loves her teachers and has made so many new friends. I help volunteer on Mon. & Wed. afternoons and love helping the teachers and staff. We look forward to the Friday Fun Night. My husband and I will be volunteering our time that night. We love how everyone has welcomed us. My daughter is doing well in school. Her first report card she had all A's except one B. She is finding the work challenging but rewarding. We look forward to three more years of this school. I am just happy that my daughter is doing well and that she is happy with the school. Everyone we have spoken to that has children at this school loves it very much. Thanks

I have two children at this school. We were told how great Little Oak is and so far the teachers and staff have been wonderful. I am worried that there is too much fighting going on at recess. My son comes home and tells me about fights all the time in the school. The school does seem extremely overcrowded.

I currently have two children in this school, one in 4th and one in 6th. Seems like every year we get stuck with one 'not so great' teacher, but it balances with also getting a terrific teacher. Luckily they do not spend the entire day with just one. The band director is excellent and the program is so popular that they have a waiting list for it. After Hurricane Katrina, they have been able to get the school right back on it's feet. We have enjoyed the school.

My child has received an excellent education at Little Oak, His fourth and sixth grade years were and are very productive and enlightening. His teachers were/are very approachable and have updated web sites to visit. The aftercare staff is excellent, providing help with homework as well as giving them snacks and playtime. (tennis lessons from instructors!) He is at school from 7:30 until 5:30 and rarely complains about it. I've been very happy too! I hope Boyet is as good as this school.
