This an absolutely terror of a school. I mean horrible. The teachers basically are there for a paycheck. They do not care about the kids at all. There is 0% encouragement all they do is tear them down. They make up reasons to give them suspension or detention because they do not like them...I requested four times to have my child removed from one class to no avail. Even went to the school board. Before this school came into our life my kids had respect for authority now there is none. My 13 year old daughter has had 23 referrals. The principal does nothing to aid in their lives or progression. I am at my wits end. Do not let your kids go to school whatever you do. You will be sorry. I can assure you.
Basically, the teachers are extremely rude (with the exception of few)and the principal is a gigantic jerkface. The end t//_^t
This is my child's first year at STJH, and I must say I have been to open house and meet with all her teachers and I feel as tho my child has some very good teachers this year. I'm very pleased. My child likes the school and at this time I have no problems with the school. Yes, my child has come home and told me of some things that went on that day in school, but she also told me how a teacher or staff member handled it. So as for now I only have good things to say. You know there is no perfect school all schools have problems in one way or another. Just stay involved in your child's education and let the teachers know you care and want to know what's going on in your child's school.
It's a great school. Many people grew up going, as did I. I enrolled my child in his first year, and during so, I took a look at what my old school had become. I must say, it's improved! Sure, it's not the best school, but it's most certainly not the worst. The kids are respectful to adults, but not brainwashed, like the catholic schools. It's a good mix. The best part is that, the teachers are friendly. Everyone knows everyone. It's a great community, and who wants to learn from someone you don't like? The music program is SPECTACULAR, if I may add. In closing, while there are quite a few faults, there are far more pros. If you send your child anywhere, send them here.
Principal doesn't care, teachers don't care, kids are out of control. Fights all the time, kids curse in class and teachers just tell them to watch their languange, no discipline.
In response to the post on May 20, 2008: as both a teacher at STJH and a parent of a student here, I wish to apologize for your unpleasant experience. However, I wish to correct some of the misconceptions you walked away from us with. I have taught in St. John Parish, Jefferson Parish, and catholic schools during my career. The student population at St. Tammany Jr. is more respectful than those at the before mentioned public schools I have taught at previously. I dare say, even some of the students I taught in the catholic school were much ruder and more disrespectful than those I now work with. The PTA in 2008-09 was not, as you pointed out, in full operation. That school year was one of transition for many faculty memebers and the administration. We now have a very active and supportive PTA.
St. Tammany Jr. High is a horrible school, the kids are out of control, teachers are overwhelmed and really don't put love into what they do. I can go on and on about how they've had only one PTA conference, no school pride from both staff and as a result it has fallen upon the students. Trust me take this is not a great school. My son has always been in a catholic school environment and St. Tammany was his first year and it's his last. I asked to come and visit for a half day to understand how the teacher's teaches and was denied due to some students being special education students. The parish or whom ever decided that parents didn't want other parents to set in the class because they feared that we (as parents) would judge their kids and not be focused on why we are visiting
