We recently moved here, and my daughter's teacher did a great job helping my daughter makes friends at her new school. My daughter is very shy, and I was concerned about her ability to make friends. The school has been welcoming...front office staff are the best.

My daughter went to first grade here and we loved it! Great school, great staff, great staff! I really have no complaints and would highly recommend this school especially because it only goes up to 3rd grade!

As a mother of four, I spend many hours on campus helping, and have always been greeted cheerfully, respected, and loved. My kids feel appreciated, and acknowledged as people at this spectacular school. Academically, the scores tell the tale, but the rest of the story is these kids love to learn as they are taught by a wonderful team of teachers that love to teach.

I love this school. My son went to T-1 there and is now in a gifted progrm. The staff is great. My son was in the science club and just loved it! I really can't think a single negative thing to say.

I am a parent of 2 Whispering Forest students and have recently (2008) become a substitute teacher for this school as well. I have had the opportunity to see Whispering Forest as both a parent and as a teacher and I simply adore this school all the way around! The principal, teachers and office staff are all incredible! I only wish the classes would go all the way to 8th grade (or higher) ~ I just hate to leave them! This school is a smaller school than average, therefore, the children are treated as individuals and not a number. As stated by other posts, Whispering Forest is extremely neat and clean and is located in a nice, safe area of Slidell. Knowing many teachers here, I can personally attest that they really do care about their students... I know the kids are treated with respect and fairness.

My daughter is in her second year at Whispering Forest. The faculty and staff is top-notch. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to visit their children. There are also many other programs that young children can join. I really love that the school is always clean and organized and student work is displayed everywhere. Keep up the great job Whispering Forest :)

My child attended Whispering Forest in grades K through T-1. We've since relocated, and she attends a different school as a first-grader. Her educational experience at WF was top quality. This school is one of the reasons why St. Tammany schools as a whole are rated and viewed so highly. They truly strive for excellence and set the standard for many other schools. I was truly impressed with the caliber of teachers that are employed at WF. Each and every one of them went above and beyond to meet the social, emotional, moral, and educational needs of their students. I would not hesitate to recommend this school to any parent.

The best principal I have ever seen at any elementary school. He knows all the student's names and can identify their parents. Great, positive environment for children.

Great school for a child with difficulties. My son has trouble with reading and speech. He got so much more help here than at his previous school out of state. He has made so much improvement. I know he wouldn't have gotten this kind of compassion and help anywhere else but here. The teachers and staff are extremely helpful and always very polite to parents. I would highly recommend this school to any child and especially children with special needs!

My child's in 3rd grade. We just moved here this year so I'm not in a position to compare the school pre and post Katrina. After a rocky start with teacher transitioning, things finally smoothed out. We were very disappointed in the substitute teacher that was chosen & the time it took find a replacemennt. The school has no student programs in place as far as teaching the children how to handle social conflict such as bullying etc. & I don't feel they have sufficient recess supervision. Also I am not happy with the follow up/advice/help I've received in resolving some of these related issues. I would like to see the school sending home parent notices further in advance & communicating better. I don't see any extracurricular activities here that don't involve academics. All in all, I feel it's a good school but does have room for much needed improvement.

My son went to Whispering Forest in Kindergarten through third grade. He was given an excellent educational start there. The teachers provided excellent learning activities, including many hands-on learning experiences. The teachers were of the highest quality, and each cared about their students. There was a core group of involved parents who assisted with school programs and activities. Overall, I was very pleased with the education he received at Whispering Forest.

The school is very stricked and does not let the kids talk during recess, lunch or bathroom time. The teachers are very judgemental and express this to the children instead of the parents. I really enjoy the principal but will not send my children back next year due to the negativeness of the teachers and there unwillingness to communicate with the parents.

My 1st grader was so behind when he transfered to whispering forest because of health issues, they have worked wonders with him! Their pre-k program is wonderful! Their teachers and staff are friendly and very helpful. I think it's one of the best schools in Slidell.

A great school if your child is perfect. Don't bother otherwise.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana.

In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
