Washburn is a school which is not accustomed to having a student remain with them for more than a year or so. This has resulted in a decided lack of comprehension of behavioral, social or emotional issues a child might have. If a child is anything different than an average learner they promptly throw up their hands and say, "lets make an excuse to drop them on the special ed department." The outdoor safety is meager at its best and dismissal is a disaster for the swarms of walking students. Only two of the many intersections have crossing guards. While there are a few gems in the faculty it is by no means an example of compassion and dedication. I will be relieved when my child is moved to a different school and no longer suffering under their insufficient capabilities. If you have a special needs student, do them a favor and get them into a different school!

My daughter has attended Washburn Elementary School for two years now and love it. She has had two of the most wonder teacher over this period of time and has grown both socially and academically. She has been moved into the Gifted program for both math and reading. The school staff is very concerned with the well-being of all students and makes every effort to develop relationships with both parents and students. What a warm environment for my daughter to learn.

I have had two children attend Washburn over the past 6 years. Our experience has been very positive with our children both qualifying for the gifted + talented programs in 4th grade. Communication has been great with few issues over the 6 year period. The teachers seem to truly care for the children and nurture them as well as educate them. I particularly like the fact that all the teachers get to know the children since the school community is so small. My kids did not participate in extracurricular through the school since in Auburn most activities at this age level are through the rec department.
