Would rate the school system lower if possible. Listed as 2nd worse educational facility in the state while being in the top 10 for expense. Administration and "teachers" are self serving diluted miscreants whose only objectives are pay checks and less work. Granted the school does have a lot of students with very lazy parents however students are not prepared for college as proven by the placement of most students in basic math and english courses. Good intentions do not make a good school and sadly the school board is full of optimist.

Some people dream of success... while others wake up and work hard at it. That is how I feel about the Deer Isle- Stonington High School. They continually work on strengthening their programs and methods, so all children will experience success, which in turn is a goal for a successful school. They are not dreaming they are doing! There are varied opportunities to meet the needs of students.(challenging college courses, hands on opportunities for learning and support classes for those in need). Students strive, learn and grow in different settings. It's commendable to see a school that addresses those issues. There are successful extracurricular activities which provide more opportunities for students to acquire life lessons and build confidence in them. I have had two sons attend DIS high school and one who wished he had. Both graduated confident and prepared for their future. One son is furthering his education and the other joined the work force. Both played sports with very positive experiences (wonderful memories). In closing I would also like to mention the positive and active community support. Truly an important ingredient to building a successful school!
