We have a wide diversity of students who work well together.
I have taught a number of years in Central Maine and am troubled by the reviews you have given this school. I too believe that outdated data does not serve the school, students, or the community well. I also am troubled that a disgruntled parent can taint the reputation of a school. I would suggest that people should go to the CCSSO site and compare Shead's reading and math scores with Machias, Portland, Woodland ,Calais, Gardiner, Rockland, and Cony. There are many factors that make a good school. For instance; do the students feel safe, are the adults who care about the whole student not just his or her test scores, is there a feeling of respect for students, staff and community? Please do not judge this school based on this site's report. Dig deeper and I think you will see another point of view.
Look at the dates of the test scores - 2006-2007!! Give me a break; only 1 year of test scores are listed. Since that time there is a new principal, recognition by US News and World Report as a top school in Maine, updated classes and new programming. Shead is a school on the move forward.
Sorry the other parent had such a negative review. Do they feel they play any role in their child's preparation for the real world?
Poor academics compared to other high schools. Does not prepare the students for the real world or college. I would not send another one of my children there.
