We are so thankful that our children attended CTL. The tuition rate is very low, thanks to the teachers whose extra work helps offset tuition. The reading/writing programs are outstanding & give kids the skills they need to think and express themselves intelligently and clearly. The upper-grade math programs are very strong & have helped both of my kids develop a love of math. Contrary to the other reviewer, we have not found that CTL caters to perfect students. There was a broad range in all classes- from academically advanced to below average. We have seen teachers go above and beyond to help weaker students (before & after-school tutoring, customized 1:1 work w/helping teachers). We have seen the lower-grade teachers work extensively and successfully to help children with different behavioral issues. In numerous instances where children with very disruptive behaviors were managed and integrated successfully, it was because of intense and consistent collaboration between the teacher, the child, AND the FAMILY. We love the sense of community and the outstanding academics of CTL. We have lived all over the US and cannot believe that this gem of a school is right here in Maine.

It is easy to call this school perfect since they hand pick students who fit neatly into their model. If students present difficulties to their fantasy community, they abruptly kick them out! - regardless of parents' willingness to help work through issues and support the teachers. They do have a wonderful reading/writing program but lack in math/science. They are far from a true community where everyone works together to help students of all types. If you want to pay this organization to help spread their literacy program, feel free. I am happy that my money no longer goes toward pay for teachers who work hard to disseminate their programs (they are a demonstration school) rather than working with all kids and their parents. Public school is a real community where, like a family, they don't simply kick you out if you are annoying. Seems like lazy teaching to me.

This is perhaps the best school I have seen in a long, long time. The teachers know how to get students to do their very best every single day. Reading and writing is stressed throughout the school day and all students perform at their maximum. I recommend that all parents visit the school's open house each year. If all schools were like CTL, illiteracy would be completely wiped out. Further, I would completely ignore the April 10 comments. This school is about as perfect as they come.

This school has the environment of sitting in a dish of home made warm pudding! In other words the atmosphere is loving, sensitive, caring and nurturing. It is also highly intelligent in the way the creative arts are taught. Reading is emphasized constantly as well as art and music. The children are highly motivated to be the individuals they are and, at the same time, are very tuned in to social skills and community. Having been a teacher myself for many years I am very impressed with the staff as well as the students. This school needs to be applauded and rewarded.

CTL is a top-notch school! We have been extremely happy with our first year! I can't think of a better place to nurture young minds.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
