I started MA in 2006 and graduated in 09. The school has progressively gotten so much worse! We do have some great teachers that really do care, but others truly are just there until they can find a better job or finish their master's degrees. Administrators keep changing which is very bad thing, we started out with a great principle that cared, and now we have admin that are nice people but have no idea how to run a school. And we've never had a Superintendent that knew what they were doing in my entire 13 years in this District. Even AP classes don't prep you for college, not even a state school, no one passes AP tests either. If you want your child ready for college make them take the early college classes offered only if you bug guidance about them. Sports and extracurricular are okay though. Often times there are about 20 kids that are involved in almost EVERYTHING and then normal kids floating in and out of activities. Beware of politics though, but you'll find that in most Maine schools/towns. Sadly what used to be a great place has gone down hill majorly, I would not recommend this school if you can avoid it.

For a small town school, there is a lot to offer the students. Plenty of sports, music and art opportunities, as well as clubs. Discipline is increasing under new principalship the last couple of years, and I feel this is a very safe place for our kids to be. A good, although not outstanding, variety of academic programs are offered. Would like to see more parents involved, the same ones are always volunteering, which contributes to burnout. Reserving judgment about the new block schedules, but not thrilled with the return to 'everybody in every class'. Makes it difficult for all kids: not academically challenging for some kids, too difficult for others, and the average kid is getting squeezed between the 2 ends. Would rather see ABC level classes again. Fall sports schedule is very difficult for working parents for 2 weeks in August.

Mattanawcook Academy is a great school. Settled in a tight knit small town, this school offer an excellent academic package alon with sports, music programs, two annual drama productions, and many more social activities. The administration tries to be fair, but consistant and the faculty and staff are tom knotch.

This school badly needs a civil rights team. It's one of the few high schools in the state that does not have one. Currently, the majority rules without mercy. You can get a good education here, if you can survive the students.

Consider homeschooling. Administration cares about their children, not every child. If your child can cope in any situation, he/she might make it. If they have problems of any kind, or are a problem, do not be mislead and think the school cares. Otherwise, you will have many sleepless nights and no resolution. My kids, and others, attended 'Greenlaw High'.
