Correction to the previous submission, Students do NOT fail schools, schools fail students. Collage educated professionals are responsible for the success of students, not the other way around. If the current system isn't working, change it, rather than slip into failing status as LRHS did by applying old habits.

I have been a parent of five children to have gone through Lake Region High School and Lake Region Vocational Center. Our experience there was overall very good. There were multiple activities and opportunities for each of them. Four of my children went to college, both of my boys left college early to pursue their job interests, and I have one daughter who is now going after her masters and another who is in her 2nd year. So the academic foundation is there for a student to succeed well. All four of my children participated in different sports teams over the years. Between them, our family also participated in the Foreign Exchange Program, traveled to Europe, hosted a student, Student Council, Honor Society, and numerous other activities. I also have two children that walked away with a great love for stained glass and continue to create wonderful pieces of Art! The only thing I would give it a little bit of negative marks, would be that it can be a little clicky. Like any school you have those staff members who will go the extra mile, and then you have those that are there for a paycheck. The vocational center is incredible!

Over the years people have said avoid Lake Region its a bad school. I just recently graduated, and overall the experience wasn't bad at all. Granted we don't have the best programs available the teachers still tried to push us to be our very best. It's the kids who don't try that screwed us over in the long haul. And with athletics, they have a very strict program that, if the kids want to compete in sporting events they cannot be failing. This is anther way to urge students to do their very best. But they need more money and more parent involvement. That is the only thing that is holding them back.

As a parent who moved to this school district not long ago and has two children who attend Lake Region High School I would like to incourage you NOT to send your children here. If you are thinking about moving here with your kids, find another school to send them to. Lake Region is below standards in acedemics and in athletics. The bullying that happens in this school is over the top and couple that with staff who could care less to do anything about it and deny that it happens only makes it worse. They are of the mind that if it happens in school they need not tell the parents and feel they should not be involved at all. Bottom line is this school is substandard and for the good of your kids send them elsewhere. I am looking into moving again just so mine can stop going here.

Comparred to schools across the nation, Lake Region is far above par. My teachers have always been great, and I am greatful for the heart and soul that my AP Biology and English teachers have. However, the downfall is that horrible students ruin it for others, some whom have trouble keeping comments to themselves and habitually cause trouble. I dissagree with the 'groups' problem. Sure, you will get some segragation wherever you go, but Lake Region is far better than most. At least for most of the Senior class of '08 if your a nice person and you treat others with respect then you will make it just fine.

My children atttended LRHS, and they had a great experience. The teachers were involved, eager to help and always available. The programs are diverse, and the discipline is fair.My children went on to attend good colleges and did well.

Academic programs are some of the lowest in the states. Students haven't passed the Mea's for a couple of years now. Academic could be better. The quality of extracurricular programs could be better. There is many academic activities offered giving teenagers a better chance to be healthier, but does not have organization. Most of the teachers are great but need to explain about the lessons with more detail. This school, aslo, does not have a great atmosphere & environment. -Parent involvement is poor.

The school offers what it can, which is all athletics, special ed and honors courses, AP courses (etc.) but the community itself does nothing to contribute to the school, which is why it is doing so poorly at the moment. My daughter is #1 in her class and doing well, despite the fact that the school has absolutely no money. She is involved in jazz band, cheerleading, all honors courses and claims that the teachers are excellent and push her to be a better student.

If you are not born here you are treated as a second class person. The academic program has the attitude of ' he might be the first member of his family to graduate so don't bother him'. This is what a administrator told me when I taught there. Lake Region is A MISTAKE for your child.

I graduated from LRHS in '00. I was a 5-sport varsity athlete and an honor roll student. Our class #1 had a 110 average in honors classes and she was a 3-sport varsity athlete. The athletics are not that great. I agree the academics need work, however the school needs money. The building needs to be replaced. Money is not diverted to athletics. I was in uniforms that were 10 years old. The community needs to get more involved and hound the state for more money to rural schools. You cannot bring in high quality teachers to a poor area with little salary. It rests on the students as well. I was able to get into top schools (temple, delaware, northeastern, etc.) I praise the LRHS staff for doing the best with what they have. Robert Berwick '00.
