I have two children in the Orono School system... Our experience has been wonderful! Each year they have had caring, committed teachers who have challenged them academically and created a positive, supportive culture among the classmates. My oldest child completed grades K-5 at Asa Adams and made a very smooth transition to the middle school. We are very pleased with the preparation she received at Asa Adams. My middle schooler just read my review and wants me to add, "The teachers are very good at making learning fun." (so I did).

The school is very children friendly, and their principal is a very caring person

Excellent. We have been very happy with the quality of education our children have received at this school. Their teachers have been very effective at meeting the needs of all the different levels and abilities within their classrooms, adapting lessons to challenge those at the high end while also supporting those who need a little extra time. The new principal had a great first year, responding quickly and directly to suggestions or issues as they arose. Concerts and other events are scheduled at varieties of times now, including evenings (there are still some daytime events). I love the strong sense of community that comes from being part of a smaller school system. Great place for young children to learn!

His school has a new principal this year 08-09...Hopefully changes are coming re: the scheduling of things such as holiday concerts during the day and the bullying issues referred to in another review

3 stars. For a school district of a 'University town' we were dissapointed at the lack of progressive thinking of administration. Bullying issues were inappropriately addressed and the disruptions take away from a positive learning environment.

The quality of education is sufficient as long as your family has the right last name. School functions are scheduled during the day and unless you are self-employed, stay-at-home parent, or a professional arranging your own schedule, there is no way you can attend.
