Hall is an amazing elementary school with a lot of heart. They teach to the child, not the test which is probably the ironic reason they got an "F" from the governor. I would certainly rate the building and facility an "F". This school year starting with a fire and relocation couldn't have helped either. Regardless, the building is filled with dedicated educators who make personal connections with students every day. All three of my children went through Hall School and the oldest is away studying at Dartmouth right now.

This school is supposed to be replaced in the next few years as it is not equipped to handle the students who currently attend it. It was built in the 1950s and the old electrical wiring caused a fire which resulted in the school closing briefly this year. The parking is non-existent, which results in parents lining their cars up outside the building to wait for the single drop-off spot. This makes groups of students late for class, particularly those who live within a half mile who are not offered school buses in the winter ( being a city school with many kids who live in this range, a large number of children in the district walk in the cold). Parents are also expected to stand outside in the snow and freezing rain along with younger siblings to wait for their children to come out at the end of the day , as they are not allowed to wait in the building. The teachers are quality however, and the new principal is very friendly. Most of the staff are wonderful, but it is definitely time for this school to be replaced, and it's first on the list in Southern Maine to be. In the meantime, the district definitely needs to step up and deal with its transportation problems.

My son has grown more at Hall that I could have imagined. Dedicated teachers and a wonderful environment. He came from a pricey private school and I found a much better fit for him at Hall. I can't say enough about the Reading Recovery Program and his teachers!!

I went here; it was great! Be sure to check out the Many Rivers programme which is a 1-2 and 3-5 multi-graded school within a school with a creative and innovative approach towards learning.
