The Richmond High School is not a school that one should expect will prepare a student for any type of higher learning. The teaching staff, most particularly math and science, are not properly trained. It is unfortunate that the general disposition of the majority of the teachers is to do only that which is minimally necessary. A parent cannot expect her/his student to have even a rudimentary knowledge of math or science after graduating from this school. On the other hand, the music and art programs are well run, with competent teachers. Another downside to the school is that there is too much emphasis on winning basketball and soccer games than actually teaching kids something useful. If you have the choice, do not enroll your children in this school - we did, and we regret it.
I have 3 children in the Richmond School System. All with special needs so they aren't just 'normal' kids. With few exceptions I have found the teachers at Marcia-Buker and Richmond Jr/Sr High School to be individuals who care for for the children and how they are learning. Small class sizes. Great athletic program (especially soccer). Our DI (Destination Imagination) Teams regularly make the state and sometimes international levels. Kind of light on other extra-curricular activities but I thing that nearly all districts are having problems with this due to budget cuts. One thing that they lack is a gifted program. But again.. budget cuts have required cutting them from most schools. Special Ed is required. Gifted programs are not. With several regional schools in the process of being unaccredited Richmond's accreditation remains intact.
I have one student who graduated from RHS and one who currently attends. Small, friendly atmoshere-Very good school
There's a couple downs, such as the teachers and coaches only care about you if your parents own something within the town. But, there are nice people in Richmond that think that you can be someone even if your not on varsity, or your parents don't have money...
The entire Richmond school system is a joke. The teachers that my children have had, with the exception of one care more about their paychecks than they do the education of the students. My children will be going to private school next year. I ould honestly pay a huge tuition than send my children to Richmond!!!!!!
This school is the biggest joke i have ever sent my child too. You can go ahead and send your child to Richmond high. If your crazy, or if your student is an outstanding Athlete. You also might want to send your child there if you want them to become and addict.
