I cannot begin to state what a tremendous school Central School is. This success is attributed to the fine leadership skills of its principal, a former Central School classroom teacher. Her amazing talent and knowledge in keeping parents informed, students welcomed, and professional faculty who support her leadership and love of learning for all students every day is truly amazing. We are so lucky to have such a successful and challenging learning environment in this town that still flaunts its low per student spending ratio. This is a public school of 474 students and the principal knows each student by name at least by mid-October. So glad we live here!

This lack-luster school is poorly managed and seems to not take partental interests into serious consideration. I have been rquestion a parent - teacher conference now for months (even in person), and the administration has not responded. I feel cut off from my child's education. I can't even get a clear picture of what an average day is like for him. Truly feeling cheated by this and cannot understand why any clear-thinking person would decide to send their child there instead of the far more professional and involved Eliot Elementary School.

The parental involvement in this school is amazing. It is encouraged and welcomed by the staff. There are many opportunities to volunteer and participate. The staff is great!

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maine used the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math and in grades 5 and 8 in writing. The NECAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maine. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
