Former Student with relatives still in TGS. Out of this area not only is TGS the choice middle school academically; Its also choice by behavior and anything else your afraid your kids might get into. Many of the schools in this area have drug problems, and behavior problems. In this district the problems are minimal. The students want to learn. The teachers are more than helpful. The scores are low on the lower grades only because MEAs are timed and they just fill in random bubbles for answers. Only pay attention to the 8th grade scores. Eighth graders have learned it only hurts their record.

Thomaston Grammar is a nice school, our daughter enjoys going there, however she is not challenged academically. She has extremely high scores on standardized tests and the school has not been able to meet her needs. She is frustrated that classes are not grouped by ability and she feels held back by students with low ability and little desire to learn. She participates in Field Hockey, Math Team, Excel Math, Band, Civil Rights Group and Future Architects of America. TGS has an excellent music department, an active parent group and some wonderful teachers.
