Went through a full four years here. I am now at the high school. Middle school I have to say is the worst EVER!!!! The teachers are horrible and complain about their job and how they don't get paid enough. They don't follow through with rules and are really immature. You can go to any other school in York and it's wonderful but the middle school is just not good
aha a ha a ah ah ah a h ah ahah h ah ah a h ah hah a a h ah ah a a h aha ha h ah ah
This school is horrible!! I am currently a 7th grader and they are horrible with grading too. When my dad went to school he he would get a 70 and it would be a C here you get a 70 and its a D-. That is crazy!! They don't trust us they treat us like kindergarteners!!! NO INDEPENDENCE!! If you have an issue you see the guidance counselor right? Well the ones here just say there is nothing we can do about it. OR lets just talk. If someone punches you in the face YOU PUNCH BACK but if you punch back you get in more trouble then the person who punched you because you punched back.. This school doesn't make sense.. I have to stay here 1 more year then seriously I am going to a private school if they even let me in with the grades I'm getting because of this school. All I have to say is this is just a wacked up school.. I'm sorry but this school wasted 3 years of my life and it's gonna waste 1 more year because were looping. We are having the same teachers that we had this year NEXT year.. God.. this will be greate
This school is horrible bullying happenes and teachers don't care! No there is no wrist cutting I am a student there and I am begging my parents to let me go to berwick academy. They might not let me in because of the horrible teaching I am getting low grades I don't get bored they just don't explane stuff to get kids to pass. They just asseume u know it all. It isn't right!
I just moved to york middle school in 7th grade and I think its a good school, I love the schedual and the laptops and the recess, I just don't vary much care for the grading system, which is if you get below a 70 you fail. Besides that, I think its an awesome school.
I go to York Middle School, all I can say is the teachers are awful, with the exception of a very few. I know your probably thinking. 'Well he's just an angry kid.' I assure you it is terrible.
As a former student and now a parent of an 8th grader with learning disabilities, I have to say that I am nothing but thrilled with the school. I feel that communication is great (thanks to e-mail) with all levels of the staff. Their athletic program is excellent and offering a bride array of options. The curriculum can be demanding, but being a previous student; I expect it and made the choice to raise my children in York because of it. With an education from York, Ivy League can eventually be an option that your child can feel well prepared for. I can not say the same for some of the surrounding area schools. I would absolutely recommend York to anyone thinking of moving, its a great community, school district and the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child' is not lost here, but rather embraced.
Reviews on this sight are very inacurate. My two daughters just entered this school, from where we were living in Missouri. They love it! The teachers are all here to help and we keep in contact by email and they are always there to help. There are tons of after school activities. I volunteer at the school and let me just tell you.. Drugs? Wrist-cutting? No they are not problems!! The kids at YMS are very well disciplined, respectful, and get a great education!! Don't send your kids to private school, its just a waste of money, when you can go to YMS for free.
I believe that YMS has done an ok job. Some of the teachers have done a fantastic job, while many have not. Many of the teachers bend over backwards to help, while most just threaten the students aobut there grades and by telling their parents about how awful the student is doing. And, many of the students are very clicky. Not all, but a few. They see themselves as a group, leaving many students out. Says my daughter. I bet with some work, we could make this a safe learning enviroment.
i'm not to impressed with YMS. The principal doesn't think of whats best for the students. The teachers are very harsh with grading. I personally think the school asks for too many things when the things they have are in absoulute perfect condtion!!! YMS isn't a great learning enviorment for the early adolesence.
The new principal has made quite a difference in the quality of communications within the school environment. The parents are as involved as any middle school child will allow. I have been impressed with the support and encouragement children receive at this middle school. There are classes for children who have special challenges, as well as those who excel. There are wonderful extra-curricular activities like sports, theatre and music. Their marching band is quite impressive. If you're looking for a safe, supportive and involved community to raise your children in, then you will be very happy in York, ME.
Unfortunately, the school does a very poor job with the transition from 4th grade to 5th, which is part of the Middle School. Due to this fact, the majority of the kids do not meet their potential in a timely manner. I have been very unhappy with the lack of control the teachers have over the badly behaved children, lack of discipline, combined with mediocre skills in the classroom. I would not recommend this school to anyone who has the option of another choice. My kids both go to private high school, expensive and w're not rich, but it's worth it.
I am largely displeased with York Middle School. My son transferred from Noble where he was a High Honors student. He barely is passing this 8th grade year and received mostly D's and F's due to boredom. I never heard from teachers, principals or guidance counselors other than at scheduled parent teacher conferences where I would be blindsided by bad news time after time. I tried e-mailing the teachers and sometimes was not even answered. Nothing is ever done.
The reviews on this site underrate York Middle School. People should take care not to personalize and project their situations and to look at the whole. The school has many good teachers, and many good programs. The problem is, middle school, or junior high school, is just terrible whether you live in Maine, NY, Kansas or on the moon. The students who attend middle school are in the midst of great changes in their bodies, their minds, and their social abilities. It is an age of great confusion, for parents and for kids, and I think that compared to the rough area that I grew up in, this school is like living in Mr. Rogers neighborhood. That being said, I do feel that the school suffers from weak leadership, and poor communication with parents. If these problems were addressed, it would be a really great school.
My daughter barely passed 7th grade despite having standerdized test scores averaging 91%+. She claimed that she was bored and that many teachers weren't available for extra help. (A few do bend over backwards to help) The principal seems ashamed to post honor roll results, although I'm sure it would give many students a little more incentive. Teacher conferences are scheduled after grades close, too late to fix problems. I keep intouch by e-mail, but it seems like the classes she struggles the most with, I don't get responses from. There are a few excellent teachers, but many seem to go through the motions and don't care if a child succeeds or fails. I think many potentially good students are falling through the cracks. Ther is a huge lack of communication.
I am quite displeased with York Middle School. When my daughter entered YMS, she was in the top 98th percentile in math and english. When she 'graduated', she moved down to the 57th. We tried everything in our power to stop this from happening, but it was inevitable with a school like YMS. Discipline is a major problem and other various issues that the teachers choose to ignore. The principle is rather inept and does not have in mind what is right for the students. All in all, we should have sent our child to private school.
Overall, we are not impressed with YMS. Our academically motivated child was bored silly. Drugs, wrist cutting, and the lack of discipline are problems.
I have found the teachers and staff highly responsive to parental concerns. The environment is safe and wholesome. The curriculum is challenging and prepares the students for further education.
