INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I Love Annapolis Senior High. The staff is amazing, caring and by far the best teachers my children have ever had. The administration is caring and on top of it all. The IB Program and the PV Magnet make this school extra special but the entire high school is great. I think that the diversity of the community is one of its major strengths. So happy to be a part of this community, my child is triving!

I am currently enrolled in the PVA magnet at Annapolis High and I love it there! I encourage incoming 9th graders who love fine arts to join our sophisticated facility!

My ninth grader is loving AHS. His teachers are very committed and caring, he is challenged academically, and he has plenty of opportunities for clubs, athletics, and other activities. The school holds regular after-school drop in meetings that provide an opportunity for 9th grade parents to touch-base with teachers. The active PTA keeps parents aware of important dates and results of games and student successes. AHS is a great place with excellent staff.

My daughter came to AHS after being in private school from K-8 and we were a little nervous about the transition. She has had a great experience here and loves her school. She loves the diversity of kids, caring teachers and opportunities to participate in a multitude of programs. The staff has a lot on their plate working with such a diverse population but they seem to always strive to provide the additional services needed by some of our kids. We love AHS and try to spread the word to anyone who asks.

Annapolis High School have excellent IB, AP and Honors programs. Our daughter transferred into the IB Program from overseas. She found the teachers and faculty to be caring and encouraging. The IB program is very challenging, but was a good fit for our daughter. The teachers are excellent educators, who challenge their students to broaden their research and views. They graduate to be thoughtful and articulate young adults ready to take on new challenges in college/university.

I attend AHS. It has an awful reputation and, yes, bad things happen here, just like at every high school. But we also have good things. We have a good SGA, good teachers, smart students, etc. Other schools get their problems swept under the rug but at AHS, everyone knows everything that goes on here. Don't be scared to send your student here. It's an excellent school and I love attending it.

I was originally concerned about my son attending Annapolis High School, but this was the school of his choice. I have to tell you I have been nothing but thrilled with the school. The teachers are great, the administration works as a team. I am very impressed and happy with our choice to send him to Annapolis. It would be great to see more parent involvement, but I know that is a sign of the make up of the school. Many students don't have parents who are involved with their lives, let alone their school.

Students at AHS are more involved, socially, and politically aware than kids I know who attend other area schools.

Annapolis Senior High is a great school: diverse, interesting, culturally alive and stimulating. My son is an out-of-area student (a Junior) who chose this school over a very good neighborhood HS and has never regretted coming to Annapolis. In fact, he works very hard in his very rigorous program but he is having a great time, and he is able to join any club/sport team he wants. Mr. Lilly is a great principal and has an excellent staff.

We really do have good teachers, especially the IB ones. I love that we have so many different people as well, I couldn't stand going to a rich white school where every kid is spoiled

Its the greatest school that has ever existed. Everyone gets along and everything is run flawlessly. It wouldn't hurt to be thrown some extra funding though. Our computers are still from the stone age.

I absolutely love Annapolis HIgh because it is a super diverse community where everyone comes from a different place but can always find someone they get along with. We have the IB program as well as the largest ESOL program in the county. We have a crazy amount of school spirit and most of all I love Annapolis High because it has become sort of a home for me that I won't forget!

Every single student at Annapolis High is a highly motivated and superbly educated young adult with a brilliant future ahead of them. The faculty and staff create loyal relationships with not just some, but every one of their students. I am truly blessed to be apart of such a nurturing environment at Annapolis High.

My Child just started here after 4 years at one of the private schools in the area. The environment is very different but much more inviting in all aspects. The students and teachers are all real people in every aspect. Moving into the honors program our child is challenged while being provided very good facilities to work with.

AHS has the wonderful IB program, AP courses, and NJROTC; not to mention outstanding athletics and clubs. I will be graduating this year from Towson University along with classmates that attended Yale, Penn State, University of Maryland, NYU, Georgia and Virgina Tech.

I graduated from Annapolis High School last year. I'm amazed by the fact that some people still don't believe in the school even after the introduction of the IB program and the continuing success of the AP program. Every school has underachievers and Annapolis is no exception, but there are countless opportunities for those who apply themselves.

I belive Annapolis has the potential to become one of the best schools in AA county in the future. The new principals have great control on the school. I agree with Jeff the media does not seem to like Annapolis. Many of students have sent letters to The Capital about it. There is not much violence at Annapolis anymore. A school should not be judged by a few students acts in the beggining of the year.

I believe Annapolis is a great school. The school has a very great education along with good teachers and extra curricular activities. The schools IB program is very good. Annapolis ranks better then any private school in the area in learning. Some students do not do well but you cannot blame the Annapolis teachers. Blame the teachers all the way from elementary school. Do not let the media's perception of Annapolis High influence your choice to send your child there.

I am a Senior at Annapolis High. In my eighth grade year, I spent a lot of time weighing the options of many different private schools as well as Annapolis, but in the end, Annapolis always came out on top. The teachers are excellent, the staff is caring, and there are enough sports and clubs for EVERYONE to get involved. Although the school may currently be surrounded the controversy of community conflicts and falling test scores it is important for people to note that not EVERYONE at the school is affected. As long as a student is willing to learn and has the drive to succeed, they will. The entire staff is there to help you, you just have to be willing to receive it.

I am a student at AHS, and I think its a great school, even though I had never been to public school before this. People who don't go here think it's a bad, dangerous, or overall poorly run school because of what they here from people or see on the news, but what everyone needs to know is that it isn't any of those things. Thanks to the staff it's a safe school, thanks to the teachers it (has the potential to be) a smart school, and thanks to the students its a fun school. A few bad acts from a few students shouldn't define our school.

My son is a sophomore at AHS and he loves it. There is a surplus of clubs, a great IB program as well as an NJROTC, and AP courses. Annapolis has a great music and arts program. Things have changed for the better since Donald Lilley became prinicpal.

My son is a junior at Annapolis High School. AHS is a multifaceted school. The top track with the AP and Honors courses is consistently able to place graduates into excelent schools. A large majority of the students are only barely able to meet the state minimums. None the less, for the students willing to work hard and take challenging courses, the school is fine.

'As an alumna of this school I try to stay on top of the schools events, lately there's been a noticeble amount of publicly displayed differences in opinions. There are situations in the communities surrounding this school that are effecting the entire schools community, but no one is addressing them, simply because of lack of knowledge. The fact that clear bookbags is a suggestion is only a glimpse of the direction we're headed. When I attended AHS there were parents who volunteered from elementary through high school, and they never forgot a face.I have noticed that there is alot of pointing fingers, when in all actuality more parental participation can be effective. What you notice now has always been there,it's just been conveniently overlooked.Reach out to these children, provide safe and effective programs, because no structure and no discipline leads to noneffective community leaders. So step up, and except the fact that the children in our community are our responsibility.'

We are a school in crisis, from a county in crisis as well. We have extraordinary teachers at Annapolis High, but due to incompetent leadership from our new principal, and political ambition from our superintendent, our school community is crumbling. So lacking in leadership skills is our principal, that the superintendent surrounds her with a group of people from his staff, as a life suppport system. How many people does it take to be a principal? Every where else, just one; at Annapolis High, at least 5! Up until this year, our school has had a fine reputation. Our teachers are not supported at all by this principal. Morale is at an all time low, and many of our finest teachers may transfer out if the principal is not removed. Up until this year, I would have given the school almost all 5's for rating. Not now.
