This is my child's third year and I am very pleased with the foundation my child is receiving. My child is receiving Christian values as well as an excellent education. Our family is blessed to be part of Emmanuel. The staff has been outstanding in assisting my child to face the rewards and challenges of everyday life. The school is outstanding.
I have had 3 kids in Emmanuel and all have excelled academically and enjoyed being part of the Emmanuel school family. Their unique gifts have been acknowledged and encouraged by the teachers. I've always known that the education they are receiving is superior, but it is also fun to see them excited about learning. The middle schoolers get very excited about science & the Chesapeake Bay, and it was fun to see my younger one get so interested in American history this past year. Also, the new principal is a wonderful woman, so caring towards both the kids and the parents.
I was disheartened to learn of the departure of the Principal at Emmanuel, hence the 1 start for Principal leadership! He has been an inspiration to all of the children at Emmanuel, and a man of great character and morals. He genuinely cared about every child in that school. The teaching staff is extremely underpaid (and has been for years!!) and they have had to take on an excessive extra amount of work to provide the outstanding academics they do. The only problem I ever saw at this school was the Pastoral leadership that tried to push its way into leading a school that already had a great leader - an incredibly selfish person and does not seem to care about the staff of the school. We'll see if the school can land on its feet without the superb leadership of its former Principal. And for those that complain about discipline - perhaps if you took a more active role in teaching your children respect at home, and you were more involved in your children's school instead of blaming everyone else for your issues, you wouldn't have such problems. Don't blame the school for your child's lack of discipline in their life - that starts at home!
I completely disagree with the two posts below mine. This school is full of amazing teachers who truely care about the success of the students. The school is fair, and every child is treated the same. There seems to be a growing number of parents who feel that their child can do no wrong, Emmanual does a good job handling them. The school provides kids with opportunities that they may not have at other schools. Alot of the special programs in middle school (Cheasapeake Bay Foundation, Out Door Education, school play) have been going on for years. Unlike other schools Emmanual has had almost zero turn over. I recommend this school for anyone seeking a Christian education. Honestly lady, if you have so much time on your hands to update your poor review anytime it falls out of the top five, then you should just start your own school.
My son and daughter attended this school for four years. I had to pull them out in the middle of the year because my son was being bullied. We had a meeting with the principal and parents of the students doing the bullying. I was extremely disappointed with how the meeting was handled. Nothing was done with the students. The students walked out of the meeting laughing. The bullying never stop. We had to transfer him to another school. It took him a long time to trust people, again, but he is doing much better. I am glad we transfer him because he made lots of friends at his new school. I am surprise this school is still opened. Staff is not trained in how to deal with today's children.
JUST POOR...For the amount of money that the school charges for tution and fees the school needs a complete overhaul. It amazes me how the school has stayed open this long with such poor systems in place. The school is not equipped nor staff trained in how to deal with today's children nor are they prepared to motivate. When teachers get too old to manage behaviors in the classroom and demonstrates lack of patience/communication/and unable to connect with the younger kids, it's clearly time to retire. There is a HUGE lack of encouragement and motivation shown to students on a daily basis. The principal and teachers have NO IDEA how to communicate positively with parents nor to provide positive reinforcement to students that are struggling either acedemically or with minor behaviors. The expectations set forth under this leadership is not something I would subject any child too during there acedmic years. Everything about this school is questionable. For this to be a christian school setting, I was extremely disappointed!!!!
My Daughter just completed her first year at Emmanuel as a Kindergarten student and has developed tremendously in academics and in faith. It was amazing to see our five year old child grow so much in one year. It was a wonderful experience to hear everything our Daughter accomplished and learned each day. We are thankful our child is able attend a school that offers great academics and a firm Christ centered education. The staff was wonderful and knowledgeable. Our Family is looking forward to another great year!
The school academics is poor. Their ability to deal with conflict is poor. The principal's skills are poor. Overall in my opinion the school needs to close. The books are old and the curiculum needs a major overhaul. They are not equipped to deal with today's children nor are they prepare to motivate. The teaching skills at this school is poor.
As a parent, I was extremely pleased with the education my twin boys received. Emmanuel Lutheran School not only offers a top-quality academic curriculum, but they also offer an environment which promotes spiritual development. My twin boys attended Emmanuel Lutheran School for 3 years. In that period of time, I have watched my boys revolve into young man. The staff and church family of Emmanuel Lutheran was very instrumental in the support that I needed as a single mother. The principal was very involved in the day to- day and not just on the administrative side. He also was very influential by teaching my boys how to tie their neck tie for chapel day. I only wish that the school was available for the high school level.
Academics are adequate. Administration does not deal with conflict very well. There are discipline problems that are not addressed. The school offers no extra curricular activities. No team sports. No student clubs or organization. Over all, I'm not impressed
My children are alumni and have taken the Christian values they experienced at Emmanuel to high sdchool, college, and into their careers. The Christ-centered learning environment is challenging and supportive of individual needs. Church-sponsored before and after school care continued this environment. There is a family atmosphere of firm but loving discipline. Middle school students are active in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Students grow and plant Bay grasses and oysters. They have planted 1000s of trees in the past 10+ years for the Md Department of Natural Resources. My children and many of their friends love to return to walk the hallways and reminisce with their former teachers and pricipal.
Living in a not so great area of town, we searched for a good school for our son. We found that school at Emmanuel! The staff puts in a great deal commitment to show the students they care. We are truly blessed to have found a school that has such a great staff and a superb principal who takes the time to get to know each and every student by name. He even made a home visit before we started there. You can't ask for a more supportive system than that - they certainly don't care that much in public schools. My child started here in kindergarten and will continue up through 8th grade. I only wish some of the parents of the kids at this school would get more involved in the PTL and show their support as much as the staff does!
The academics in this school are top knotch. The teachers and staff are attentive and work hard to give the best education possible. My child has been challenged and has become an A student because of the teachers at this school. Alumni from here can attest to the fact that they are placed in excelerated/gifted classes when moving into high school after leaving here - which is all attributed to the teaching skills in this school. The only downfall to this school is that it only goes to 8th grade instead of 12th, so we'll have to find a high school that is good enough to continue what excelling on my child has already learned here.
My daughter is in middle school and has attended Emmanuel since kindergarten. I love this school. The classes are small, the teachers are willing to work with the children and parents, and the teachers are well-versed in their subject areas. Christian values are practiced and weekly chapel held. The curriculum is reviewed regularly and changed as needed. The principal is dedicated and teaches middle-school math, which keeps him in touch with students. He knows each child by name and works with parents on any issue, either at home or school, that affects the child's ability to learn and his/her classroom behavior. Extra-curricular activities are limited, but given the number of sports, dance, and other activities the children participate in outside school, this is not a big issue. Before and after school care is available on-site for an additional monthly charge. Uniforms are required, which is great for parents. Love Emmanuel!
Both of our children attended Emmanuel and were well prepared for the educational opportunites they encountered after graduating from Emmanuel. They would often comment that books they were reading in high school were also in the middle school curriculum. They were use to taking mid-terms and finals since they had experience with these tests at Emmanuel. Our son went on to high level math courses in high school and college choosing a career in math. In middle school they were required to write research papers further preparing them for the future. But most important of all was the Christian and moral values they were exposed to and saw put into action day to day.
Our daughter attended this school from 2nd thru 5th grades. The elementary education was adequate. However, if you are looking for a middle school that will challenge your child academically, this is not the school for you. The administration has decided not to provide Algebra or a foreign language, e.g. Spanish or french to the middle school students. There are no extra curricular activities, except for band, which is an additional fee. The computer lab is inadequate and students are required to share computers. There are many discipline issues. This is not the school for parents looking for the best education for their children.
I love this school! The academics are excellent, the class size is good, the teachers are knowledgeable, involved, and caring. Everything is offered, computer lab, music, Latin, physical ed, etc. My son is in the middle school and he loves it here. The kids are taught from God's word and Chapel is beautiful. The principal is extremely involved and all parents are as well. I highly recommend this school if you are looking for strong academics and parent involvement.
Excellent academics! Plenty of parent involvement! My child is in the upper school and enjoys going to school. All teachers are wonderful! Excellent field trips as well.
My son has attended ELS since 1st grade and he has developed academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. I'm please with his progress and the academic challenges he's given. The small classes affords him the attention he needs from his teachers.
